Anyone miss me???

*dead silence* I'll take that as a no....

Seriously though... besides the thought of eternal life what is it that makes the Christian God so appealing? He basically smites people at random in the old testament... expects you to go his way or the highway... what is so appealing about that... I understand that it makes you feel close to someone... but that is what friends are for... He just is down right mean! You gotta help me understand this...

Ah... yes I'd like answers... I'm an atheist... I don't need to be preached too...

A lot of christian beliefs can be very easily explained. but those answers are not found in the bible. If karma was accepted then it would explain why pple seem to be smitten at random. and also why one child may be born into a happy wealthy family while another is born in Iraq and gets killed 5 days later. God does not punish. We set our own actions in motion. That is Karma.

"The mystery of being, unveiled as absolute love, coming down to wash the feet and the souls of its creatures; a love that assumes the whole burden of our guilt and hate, that accepts the accusations that shower down... all the scorn and contempt that nails down his incomprehnsible movement of self-abasement-- all this absolute love accepts in order to excuse his creatures before himself..."

The quote is from Hans urs von Balthasar and it expresses what, at least to him, makes the "Christian God" appealing-- it is the willingness of that God to assume a creaturely nature, accepting all the its limitations, even suffering and death, and respond to all our ingratitude for our existence, with a word of forgiveness.

What I don't understand is if God has a plan for everyone (everyone has planned future), then why do we have sin? Wouldn't he have everyone be as good as possible? Isn't he punishing us for things we can't control?

I'm atheist, so I want some clarification.

God speaks to us but many dont listen and go against his loving message and do harm anyway.blame ourselves not him.we have free will and many defy him, while others go about listening to him and live good lives.if you are atheist you cant blame him,if others are not,you cant blame him either.man is the root of his own salvation or destruction.he guides but does not force his thinking on us

im quite happy not to preach to anyone, regardless of whether they believe or not,

whch begs the question, why bother asking?

if your dead set on not believing, then dont, no one is forcing you to

really dont see the point of u going to the effort of asking

dont make life anymore complicated than it already is

and dont be a hater,

I love my relationship with Lord. I would miss out a lot if I did not enjoy it here. I know that you do not have any idea what I am talking about, but if you want, you can have it too. Eternity is for everyone. You get to choose if you are going to spend it in hell or heaven.

Sometimes I feel like religion is like politics...

God promises eternal life, Bush promises our safety...

I wonder if we're going to get either...
