A co-worker/friend asked me what my plans for lunch were. I told her I was planning on going to a local restaurant with another co-worker. So naturally I invited her because she had no plans set yet. She makes no commitment with me. Hours later, she approaches me and says that she is going for sushi with a different group of co-workers and extended the invitation to my friend and I. I said no. Is this rude of her???

Yes, because it was obvious that she accepted their invite over yours. The correct thing would have been for her to either accept your invite, or decline politely and then keep the second invite to herself, so as to avoid hurting your feelings. I would not call her behavior friendly.

No - she made no commitment to have lunch with you, and asking you what your plans for lunch were, did not necessarily mean she wanted an invitation.

Perhaps she was just making conversation.

Actually, she was being quite thoughtful to invite you and your friend along. She could have just ignored your invitation completely and walked out with the other group.

NO. The world is already too touchy about manors and purposeful slights, theres no need to try to look for the insult in something as simple as unconfirmed lunch plans. Unless she was show-boating the fact that she thought she was going out with a 'classier' group.

Let it go. She'll go out for lunch with you soon I'm sure.

she didn't make a commitment to you, so i wouldn't think so. maybe she just wanted to get more people to go out for lunch, which seems plausible since she did extend the invitation to you and your friend.

no it's not rude she never said she would go with you guys you just assumed she would. It was nice of you to invite her though I'm sure she'll eat with you some day unless you decide to be rude to her because of this.

She never committed to go with you but then included you with another group. She wanted a bigger group.

No. She was actually being polite by inviting you after you invited her. She was trying to include everyone.

Maybe she didn't know how solid your plans were. You can stew about it or live another day.
