Most women who have a breast biopsy end up with a benign (not cancer) finding. The odds are in your aunts favor. If she does end up with a cancerous finding, she can be relieved that she found it with a mammogram, before it was large enough for her or her doctor to feel. The earlier a breast cancer is diagnosed, the better the outcome! Best wishes to you and your aunt....
"About 80% of all biopsies done in the U.S. produce benign (not cancerous) results, according to the American Cancer Society."

There are possibilities both that it could be benign or cancerous.
If there weren't there would be no need for a biopsy.
Given they seem to be moving relatively slowly, I would think the Dr's are anticipating it will be benign.
I had a mammogram and ultrasound on a suspected cyst on a Thursday. I was told on Monday they anticipated it was cancerous, Tuesday I say an Oncologist and Surgeon, Wednesday I had a biopsy, Thursday back for mor tests with surgery the following Thursday! 2 weeks in total from mammogram to surgery!

My mother had a mammographic finding that turned out to be a cyst, confirmed by ultrasound. If your aunt's getting a biopsy, it's gotta be something solid. There are all kinds of breast masses, benign and malignant. For folks past menopause, cancer tends to be more common, so it's very important to rule out. Cancer caught early has a favorable cure rate, which is why annual mammography is a good idea.

Mine were possitive unfortunately & I had Pagets Disease of the breast & grade 3 & intermediate breast cancers, this was back in 2003 & am a four year survivor XXXX Easy for me to say but try not to think to hard about it. Just give your aunt all the support you can xxxx

As a result of the biopsy, the dr will then plan his attack If the cancer has not shown any evid of spread, the treatment is prob radiation to the area. If he does a lymph node biopsy and finds evid of spread, the treatment is chemotherapyt

Yep. I had a mammo, ultra sound and ultrasound guided core needle biopsies--twice.
It's really going to depend on a LOT of things. It could be nothing, or it could be cancer.
I wish you and your aunt "benign" status!
