I am so sorry to hear about your grandpa. Sometimes we are told things that are not true by well meaning people. I have had this happen before, but because of my own experience with God, I have found the truth. I would spend time praying for Him. The Holy Spirit can reveal to him the Truth better than you can convince him. The Holy Spirit says that He will lead us in to all truth and righteousness. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal this to him.

I love this argument. People who believe that to get to Heaven you have to speak in tongues are basing their belief on the book of Acts, which is nothing more than a transitional book bridging the Old and New Testaments. You do NOT need to speak in tongues to get to Heaven. Tell them to read 1Corinthians 13 (or so) and see how Paul came down on the people of Corinth about putting too much weight on the gifts of the spirit.

You can tell him that tongues is a gift of the spirit. His church was wrong. Baptist people don't talk in tongues like pentecostal people, but do I think they aren't saved? No. You don't even have to be baptised to be saved. Some people aren't in that position. You can't convince him, he needs to hear it from God. Now, if you're saved then you can pray that God will show him.

Water Baptism is not Neccessary to go to Heaven.
Getting "Filled" with the Holy Spirit is not Neccessary to go to Heaven.
Speaking in Tongues AFTER you are Filled with the Hoy Spirit (the Only Way you can Speak in Tongues) is not Neccessary to go to Heaven.
Romans 10:9 is the Only Thing Neccessary to go to Heaven.
Anybody can do it IF (FreeWill) they want to go to Heaven.
That church was OUT OF LINE with GOD Almighty when they told him that.
If your granpa has done ROMANS 10:9 then He IS SAVED.
Period.

Tongues is a gift of the Holy Spirit given to those who are baptized in the Holy Spirit. Salvation is when one puts faith in Jesus Christ alone for there Eternal home. If your Gramps has never received the baptism of the Holy Spirit he just missed out on a deeper walk with God in this life but will still go to Heaven.

Because the Bible says that not all believers speak in tongues. Some do, some don't.
Salvation is ONLY by believing that Jesus, who is God, died for your sins on the cross and rose again.
This tongues thing is works, not faith.

I'm sorry that your church has nothing better to do than threaten cancer patients with hell.
Speaking in tongues, or s.p.i.t. for short, is not even real. The babbled words do not have syntax, grammar, or any of the hallmarks of language. I'm not religious, but it's easy to see through the hogwash known as speaking in tongues. Half of the words go "fa-la-la-la-la" and contain no context whatsoever. I'd suggest leaving that pathetic church.

There are gifts of the spirit - no one has all the gifts, although some have more than others. Speaking in tongues is just one of several gifts of the spirit.
