An ex coworker, wanted an english bulldog for the longest time. I don't think he did the research because now his "baby' is six or seven months old and doesn't listen. I know that the breed is very stubborn, but lovable, you just have to have patiences. So he wants to get rid of him. I want the dog.
But he won't "give" him up. He wants to make his money back (2500). I don't care about papers, or registration. How should I resolve this?

There's not much you can do if he wants to sell his dog.

But I doubt he'll get $2500 for it. The dog is past its cute puppy stage and is stubborn and not very well trained, from what you say.

Can you pay your friend anything? I'd just keep reminding him (but not pestering him) that you want the dog, you can give it a good home, and you can pay a certain amount. His effort to sell the dog will probably take some time, and he'll probably lower the price several times. (But I wouldn't tell him this--let him try to sell it for $2500 and get frustrated.)

Maybe you could give him some information on how to find a good home for his dog. This might encourage him to not just give the dog to the highest bidder.

First of all, english bulldogs come with major baggage. Skin, eye, breathing, eating problems etc. If your friend has not taken this pup to a reputable vet to have it checked out, I would make sure that happens first. $2500.00 is a lot, even for an english bully, and if the dog is registered, you should want the papers, period! Why let someone who obviously can't raise a puppy properly keep an important part of this dogs history? Try to work out something with him, barter etc. You sound like you might be able to stop some of the bad habits your friend has instilled in the pup. It is NEVER too late to help a dog be a good dog!
Also, has this pups hearing been checked? It could possibly be deaf. This is not a huge problem, as bullies need to be house dogs in the first place. Dogs are capable of learning sign language!

A lot of people do that with dogs. Want them for their looks and not the personality.
M.I.B and Taco Bell. Need I say more?
However, you should get the dog. But with the papers. Registration is pretty important too, depending on what you're registered for. If there is any sort of problem, you need to be able to trace the dog's breeder for questions. And sometimes vets also look at that sort of thing.
If you have the money, pay him and take the papers.
If not, try haggling or have a long discussion about how he'd save himself money in the long run by just taking what you offer now.

I agree with the above poster, he definately won't get his money back out of it. That's just the way it goes.

But I would definatley offer him SOME sort of monetary amoutn, 100, 200 whatever you can afford and see if he takes the bait.

Again, I agree with the above answerer, and just remind him you'd love to take his dog off his hands. Maybe he'll come around and cut his losses.

I'd say bargain with him - if he wants to make his money back, he should go for a bonus or something. $2500 for an "old" puppy just ain't happening, unless he poops gold. I'd offer a small amount, whatever you feel is reasonable.

if he wants his money then i would just offer to take the dog if no one buys it from him. once he realises he wont be able to sell the puppy because it over a year and not trained he may give the dog to you goodluck

you'd probably have to meet him at least half way. there are plenty of people who are willing to buy him for the full price if you don't. it all depends on how bad he wants to get rid of the dog, that's how much less you'll have to pay. haggle with him.
