Ok so I have windows XP media center edition and I want to get microsoft office 2007. My question is this - do I have to upgrader to vista in order to use microsoft office 2007( the new version of office.

My question for you -- do you really need 2007? Vista and Office 2007 will require you to relearn a lot of that with which you are now familiar.

Office 2007 runs on XP just fine. I ran it for 4 months before I switched to Vista, and my mom still runs it on on her XP laptop.

Yes. Microsoft Office ONLY works for Vista.
Best bet is to get a new comp because older comps with updated vista systems have been known to have serious problems

You absolutely do NOT have to upgrade to Vista. Vista has a few bells and whistles, but in terms of pure operation? I preferred my XP Pro.
MS Office will run just fine.

microsoft office 2007 will work on winxp sp2 just fine

YES!!! you can plug a flashdrive into it and it increases your ram
