I am having 3 wisdom teeth out tomorrow AM and didn't want a gaping hole in my other molar showing (the one I use the temporary dental filling in), but it hurts after I put it there and I have to take the stuff out due to the pain. Is it painful because of the roots/nerves? ** Serious dentists/dental students or doctors only please. Thanks sooo much! :o)

Thank you all sooo much! That makes perfect sense about the filling being too high and pressure, that's exactly what it feels like :o)
Okay, I won't worry about the hole either, no biggie right?! & I'll tell the oral surgeon tomorrow about it for sure.
Thanks again & good nite!

The filling may be too high and you are putting all of your pressure on that tooth first which will make it sore. The tooth may also need to have a root canal done depending on how much decay is in the tooth and when you put the filling material in the tooth it may be sitting on the nerve which will also cause pain. So if you have had this hole in your tooth for a long time then you will probably need to have a root canal done if you want to keep the tooth. Don't worry about the dentist seeing the hole in your tooth. We see that kind of stuff everyday so it really isn't a big deal.

Hello,
Dentists have seen it all. Don't be scared about a huge hole in your tooth.
It may be that this temporary is too high or the nerve may be in serious trouble.
Either way just tell the dentist this fact also tomorrow.

I'm no dentist, but I have had four teeth root-canalled. When your teeth hurt deep like that you will likely need a root-canal, but only a dentist can say for sure. If your general dentist says that you need a root canal demand a referral to an Endodontist (a specialist that does root canals).
