I'm doing a project for my science class. We have to make a prestentation about the rainforest, but we each are assigned to be a different type of perspective on the rainforest. Long story short I have to confince my class to cut down the rainforest for logging. I have to find information on good things about cutting down the rainforest. Are there any? Could you help me? Any ideas?

You have the very best question and the easiest. Yes, the whole thing can be done with a couple of sentences and lots and lots of photos of luxury items.

I would do something like this:

Ask - You have a million pounds what would you buy from these?

Then show pictures of top of the range everything, sports cars, houses, celebrity photos, jewelry, electronic goods, horses, speed boats, designer fashion.

Try to think about the people in your science class and make sure you include something that is very very very expensive that EACH one of the would like. So Joe likes motorbikes, get picture of top of the range motorbike, Alice likes horses, find pictures of all the top meets, Ascot, beautiful racehorses.

Then when they are all fighting to spend this million pounds and you have shown all the photos.

Say 'What is the very best reason in the world to cut down rain forest'?

Make a big sign and bring it out with a cash symbol on in dollars or pounds whichever country you are in.

And say 'MONEY' Then wait for the applause.

If done with moderation and responsibly, it could mean a boom in the economy for the local rainforestians. pretty soon it'll become a tourist trap. next thing you know, some vacationing will trip down the path on a scenic nature walk at club forest and find a plant that can cure scores of diseases. next thing you know, everybody will want their own local rainforest. advances in climate control will make this a reality and soon 40% of all land area will be rainforest.

In all the Docs I watched and stuff I read recently people are against (who aren't making $$$) it but money interests had no probs silencing that stuff. So it sounds like you got a busted project.

You could always check the net along those lines, bring a paintgun or something, and say to the class "The forest goes, or you do. Then the forest goes anyways."

If I was the prof I'd get you creative points.

Well, I'm against cutting down trees period.
BUT in certain cases the logging industry helps reduce the potential of forest fires by removing vegetation and cutting down trees. This also allows new growth to form under the old trees.

Trees are a renewable resource. I think some people are not aware that trees can be planted and grow to replace those cut down.
1) It provides jobs for people in impoverished areas.
2) It contributes to the local economy.
3) If done responsibly, no long term damage will be done.

The "shrinking rain Forrest" has been coming down since I was a child. If it's not gone by now it's not going to go anywhere..Anyway, point out to your class that there are more tress in the U.S. now that there was 100 years ago, so while logging is going on the the Rain Forrest, what is being taken is also being replaced.

I saw the John Stossel report as well. They are cutting down trees and replanting them at triple the rate. Cutting down trees is actually making room for more trees. Burning wood does create carbon monoxide, but if people need to stay warm it is 10 times better than burning coal. Hope this helps ya...

it somewhat is especially undesirable. You wasted hundreds of thousands of trees to make decks. The rain woodland is domicile to tones of animals. And the trees placed oxygen into the air. maximum of animals are in dangered because of the fact human beings decrease down the trees. yet whats achieved is performed. you may no longer substitute it now. there is not any element in feeling in charge approximately it. yet do on no account do it back! in reality if i advance into you, i'd purchase some rain woodland back and not do something to it. That way human beings can no longer purchase it and advance it.

John Stossel did a report a couple years back that we are actually planting more trees around the world than we are cutting down. It was on one of his Give Me A Break segments.

well, you could present everything you need and then still give an idea or two that ensures people that the rainforest can still go on with various projects, such as act4trees.com
