Not all brides do. Some brides do rent their gowns. Others can sew and make their own gowns . . . or they hire a seamstress to do so. Still others borrow and wear mom's gown, or aunt's gown, or cousin's gown. Some brides wait for a David's $99 sale . . . or buy a gown at Target.
There are as many beautiful gowns as there are beautiful brides, and not all those gowns cost thousands.

i think bride to be really prepare this occasion as the highlight of their lives. they wanted it to be the most memorable day in their lifetime. especially if this is their first time getting married and thinking they want to be the perfect queen for that day. then, even its the most expensive wedding dress there is, they keep it as a souvenir, a memento of their happy young life, starting together. some bride expect their groom to be well prepared as well, not just like a rental tuxedo that they can return, some bride, keep the two clothing to preserve for their children and grandchildren to see (if the marriage will last that long). those clothing can be wear again if their size were still the same after several long years, think about the silver & golden wedding anniversary, they do still tie the knot accordingly. what would be the best way if you can still wear the same one? if not, alteration is the other option. plus if they pay that much, they will be the center of attention comparing price from their other married friends...

i think the only women who spend thousands of dollars on a wedding grown are those who come from a rich family and and can afford anything they want. I have not got married but I know I will not spend my whole life's savings on any dress. It should be nice and one that I like because my wedding is an very important day but not for a thousand dollars.

Well, I spent $300 on a dress that I have worn one time - true - but my husband bought a tux for $800 that he has worn at least once a year to his office Christmas party and also to weddings and other formal events (and he looks d*mned good in it, too!). So not everyone does what you are talking about - some of us are more practical.
And I'm thinking of having my wedding dress tailored into an evening gown so I can get some more wear out of it...

Brides and grooms do it out of tradition and etiquette, which doesn't necessarily mean it's right. Brides don't have to spend thousands of dollars on a dress...some can even buy their gown from Making Memories: "Brides Against Cancer" so that they are contributing to a noble cause and getting their wedding gown.

Not ALL brides spend "thousands of dollars" especially with $99 deals at Davids Bridal and renting wedding gowns and going onto ebay or checking out craigslist.

how do you rent a tux and wear it many times? if you rented it you have to return it so I'm pretty sure they only wear it once. my husband bought a suit and wore it a few times and that cost us about $300. my dress was about $500 so not far off. yes I did only wear it once, but it was a special day so I really dont regret it. I wouldnt never however put out thousands for a dress and I wouldnt rent one either.

Girls just like to dress up, but guys are more than happy in jeans & 'T' shirts. If you want to spend hard earned bucks on a dream thats likely to go puff a few months down the line, go ahead, but don't complain if you haven't got the deposit to put down on somewhere to live.

My daughters getting married & bought her dress for 300.00. When we entered the store, she headed right to the clearance rack. Bought a beautiful halter dress for less than 1/2 price.
