It's probably because of the "e" on the end of "Magdalene". No, "Holy Grail" theorists claim that's where she ended up. (Actually, it would have been Gaul then, not France.)

From what I have read about her, after Jesus was killed she fled to France...they claimed her for years as a resident there.

No, but she ended up in a town in the South of France called Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. Her head is apparently in a church in Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume, also in the south of France.
