Good- ( this is for a 60gb and 80gb)
Wireless controller
Large memory capacity without buying additional memory card
wifi internet wireless
Blu-ray
HDMI, HDTV format
Graphic quality which cannot be beat on an HDTV
Free internet
Great upcoming games
Ports for usb, and other ports which utilize cameras
Upgradable memory without needing a special PS3 hard drive (Just use an external or a laptop h-drive)
Unrivaled gaming experience with the sixaxis
Im a PS3 fan so i love to tell the good, but nothing is perfect =).
Bad-
Needs a large amunt of ventilation
The starting games were horrendous
Internet isn't the fastest
cannot utilize dvd's which require hd dvd player
need to buy an adaptor to load ps2 memory
I think the good outweigs the bad and i reccommend it =).

Well for me personally I don't care if it makes a sandwich for me every day if it doesnt have good games. So far it is pretty meh, while the xbox 360 I would say is just a tad over meh. It has pretty good future releases though, but nobody can really see into the future. Basically, if you like your RPGs and Action/Adventure games over FPS and Sports games, the PS3 is for you (although NBA 2K7 is better on the PS3).
It has free online unlike xbox, but the service is inferior. Is it worth saving $40 a year? Maybe.
It's a Blu-Ray player, which compared to the HD-DVD format is far superior in titles and support, but if you don't have an HDTV it doesn't really matter, you can just stick with DVD.
The controller is your classic PS2 shape, which is good, but it is lighter, which is questionable. The controller has tilt sensing, but so far it has been used for nothing much.
It has an upgradeable standard Hard Drive, unlike the propriatery Xbox Hard Drive.
And of course, it is a very powerful machine. The graphics are much better than the PS2 (duh, I don't think just "sharper" is the word for it, more like 40 times better.) What does this mean? It might have slightly better graphics than the 360 years ahead, but so far developers say the PS3 is hard to make games for (especially EA), so graphics are SLIGHTLY poorer than the 360's, for now.
My opinion? Check IGN.com if the PS3 has the games you want, and if it does, wait two months to buy it as it'll probably have a price drop soon. Wait, actually buy one right now, and make sure it's the 60 GB version because only it has FULL bacwards compatibility to PS2 and PS1 games (well so does the 20 GB but it just plain sucks).
Edit: to the poster below me: The "gamestation" doesn't break down. If it did, it's been over a year and it should have been fixed already, and if it still does, it'd be very rare. If there's any system that breaks down it's the 360 (google "Red Rings of Death" if you don't know what I'm talking about.)

There are certainly 3 diverse structures.... the 40, 60 and 80GB's..... all of them can examine flash drives, and that i'm undecided what SACD is..... however the 40 is the main difficulty-unfastened, via fact it has each and all the effective factors of the 80 only smaller fee and GB of direction.... however the 60 is the only one that is PS2 game like minded and is likewise the toughest to discover.... in spite of the fact that, you are able to bypass on line from the PS3 keep and acquire countless the PS2 video games for the PS3 40 or 80 GB's..... solid success!!
