If you were Regular Armed Forces and you found out the folks in your platoon were all paid pre-enlistment bonuses? $20,000, tax free to be there, Would you feel confident with a "paid for" soldier next to your reg service uniform, in a regular service uniform? Would you feel betrayed?

I suppose I'd rather have soldiers next to me, then me be the only one out on the battlefield!

If you want to get re-enlistment bonus as they did then the thing to do is re-enlist. Since this is a re-enlisment that means they have spent at least part of the last few years in the service. Most of the soldiers were at one point elegible for a re-enlistment bonus. There are also soldiers that were given enlistment bonus' based on the MOS they selected.

I think that the previous enlistment would mean they are veterans and know the ropes. This would in fact make me feel safer.

God Bless you for serving in the Armed Forces and protecting this Greatest Country on God's Green Earth.

I never thought that getting paid makes a person do their job less professionally. A re-enlistment bonus is just part of pay.

Are you not a "pair for" soldier also? I though everyone in the armed services got paid.

Its like the volunteer working next to the paid worker. The current administration realized that if things kept going the way they made them go that the draft would have to be started so they decided to pay people to go. These people will be in and out in the minimum time. Yes I would feel a little less secure.

I would be scared of being killed by Iraqi insurgents, same as if I did not know about the bonuses. The compensation structure is not the fairest thing in the world, but is also not the biggest problem right now. Worry about staying alive.
