Can I be placed in a mental home against my will?

Question

I have a brother who is always saying that he's going to pay someone off to throw me in a mental home. Is this possible? he says that I don't deserve to be in public and that when our parents die he's going to try and get custody of me and throw me away for life. I'm very coherent and I know where I am and I'm not crazy. Could he really do this? Could I get him in trouble with the law for threating me?...This really isn't a joke...and I'm the oldest one. I take care of myself, and I'm not mentally retarded. Its just threats he makes because he thinks I shouldn't exsist....help?

I Forgot to add, I'm 25 and he's 22. I'm way over the age.

If you are older then no. He is probably just jealous, and once you turn 18 he can't place you anywhere. If your parents do pass away and you are 18 and he i under, you will most likly get custody of him

since you're not mentally retarded if anything they would have to prove you to be a danger to yourself and/or society. My friends parents tossed her into one a looongg time ago, she was threatening to commit suicide though so she really did actually need the help.

a person can go to the coroner and he can issue an emergency order for committal, also if the police come out and you try to hurt yourself they can commit you. both of these are for 72 hrs of observation

It takes a court hearing and evidence to do
something like that, and from the sound of
your post, it wouldn't fly.
