A 10/22 from Ruger with a Synthetic stock. It is inexpensive, low recoil, cheap ammo and the synthetic stock is "bullet proof". (sarcastically of course)

Kids like pump action shotguns because that is in the movies, .410 is great but there are a lot out there to consider and personal preference come into play a lot here.

The Ruger 10/22 is great, I love them. Lots of accessories, lots of spare parts and lots of cheap ammo. When the kid gets older it can be used to hunt squirrels and such. If you live in the country you can use it to deal with pests. I got one for Christmas at age 8, mine was wood but synthetic would have been better at that age. Synthetic and stainless 10/22's cannot be beat for beginners. There is no need for .22 shorts or .22 subsonic... people need a little recoil to know they are using an actual gun and not a toy. .22 LR recoil is just fine.

The young fellow needs two rifles and a shotgun.

First of all, he needs a .22 LR rifle, a bolt-action or lever-action repeater, or bolt-action single-shot would be best. Marlin makes some good bolt-action repeaters, and the best lever-action .22 on the market.

After he's learned to handle a .22 safely and effectively, he can go with a 20 gauge shotgun. He needs a single-shot or a pump-action. Best Buy status would go to the H&R Topper Jr. I believe it can be had under $200.00.

After he gets pretty good with the shotgun, it will be time for his first centerfire rifle. Again, an H&R product, the Handi-Rifle earns best buy status. I'd suggest a .30-30 WCF or a Handi-Rifle Ultra Hunter in .243 Win.

The good thing about getting an H&R Handi-Rifle is that additional barrels in different calibers can be purchased at modest prices. A friend has six different barrels in different calibers and lengths.

For a 12 year old beginer stick to a single shot 20 ga. until he or she become accustomed to the recoil. Being a single shot you have better control over them and will eliminate the chance or them firing at an inappropriate time. Same with the rifle, a bolt action would be best. I'd stick to a 22 that can fire 22 shorts. Get a youth model, make is not important because they will only have this for a relative short time. The gun does not have to last a life time.

And how does that individual believe approximately the methods chickens, pigs, and red meat farm animals are killed? Those are so much much less humane than looking! Have they ever been to a slaughterhouse? I desire the individual who left you that remark is a vegan. Even if they're, what approximately the entire animals killed by way of habitat misplaced to agriculture? Where does this individual suppose that greens come from? They are grown on land that the majority natural world can now not use on account that of the best way contemporary farming (agribusiness) is completed. What approximately the truth that crops are alive, too? What approximately the micro organism that infect humans with sicknesses? Don't they have got a correct to are living, too? Also, the large majority of deer die from hunger, predation, or freezing. Being shot by way of a hunter is a lot more humane for the deer. Would this individual revel in being attacked by way of a mountain lion and partly eaten at the same time they're nonetheless alive? Or ravenous or freezing to demise? No dwelling factor can exist with out immediately or not directly killing every other dwelling matters. There is not anything incorrect approximately this. It is the best way lifestyles has labored ever considering the fact that there was lifestyles.

A great combination would be a Winchester model 63, a great little 22LR rifle, and a Stevens model 311 20-bore shotgun. Unfortunately, both have been out of production for a long time, but neither is too hard to find on the gun-show circuit and in the used market in general.

Mossberg and Remington both make youth model pump shotguns in 20 guage which should be about right for a 12 year old. As for rifles there are several youth model 22 LR's on the market that would be great for a young person.

Hey I started out with a 20ga. single shot, it does not have the power of a 12ga., but your arm will still work the next day. single shots are great for learning, they teach you to make the first shot count and trust me being able to actually hit your target is a lot better than squeezing off 4 or 5 rounds without hitting anything.. And once you get good with that, then later on you could move up to something with a wider range of uses. As far as the rifles go anything in the .22 caliber range will work. Good hunting!

for a rifle i would suggest a 22 crickett as it is a single and does not automatically co_ck it is a separate step so i feel that this the safest way to go here is a link to them check them out
