I want to go live in Brooklyn (NYC) after I finish high school, but don't want to go to college at all. Good idea, bad idea?

...Of course I;ll have a job...

Housing and even renting is not cheap anywhere in the NYC area. My advice is to get a college education because without one you'll be flipping burgers for the rest of your life.

As long as you have a brain on your shoulders and are not a dunce, there is always a place to get in on the ground level and prove yourself in NYC. There are gov't jobs < cops, firemen, park workers, clerical staff>, hospital jobs, work in restaurants, publishing, etc. I would not listen to the fools that think everyone needs to go to college! Hell, the sanitation workers make as much as a college grad and don't need to repay school loans for decades! You work at what you choose and choose something in a field you would like the career to be in. There are pages and pages of employment agencies in the NY Times and many, if nmot most, are fee paid. The state of Ny has the Labor Dept with many listings and you can check these at www.labor.state.ny.us as well as on America's Job Bank @ www.ajb.org Go for it! BUT: I'd move to Queens, not Brooklyn if I were you.. just my own personal thing after having gorown up in NYC Good luck!

You're going to need connections to land a union job. If you could find one with the union transit, your best bet, it sounds like a good idea. As far as college it's a waste of time until you major in the STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Math.
