Well I certainly think they both had potential to win Championships. Tim won the most races in 1986, tied for the most poles (8), all while battling with AIDS. He finished 3rd in the 1987 All Star race and won his first 2 starts in 1987. NASCAR pulled him out of the car after Michigan and wouldn't allow him to race unless he handed over his medical records. Kyle Petty actually asked the Wood Brothers to let Tim race the #21 Citgo Thunderbird for the 1988 Shootout since he qualified due to his Pole at Pocono, however Tim decided not to pursue a lawsuit against NASCAR and disappeared. It's nice to see some people actually remember him.
Davey Allison was an excellent example of talent. He learned a lot from his father Bobby and was always a threat to win. His respect for the veterans is one thing I think a few rookies should learn from. Nice question, worth logging in to answer.

None, but had they not gotten killed, I am willing to bet Davey and Alan might have been able to pull off a few championships....... Davey was just getting going in his career, and had already almost won 1 championship, 1992, the same year Alan Kulwicki won his (by 10 points over Bill Elliott). He definately would have won a championship for Yates in 93 or 94. He was so good in NWC (now NNC) cars, if he had gone up against jeff gordon, gordon would have looked as if he were sitting still. Yes, Davey was that good. Alan was doing fairly well, but was struggling a little, being an owner/driver of a single car team when HMS, Roush and a couple of others were adding cars to their teams. He was really brilliant. I am sure that he could have figured out how to get another championship before retiring/getting out of the car. Neil wasn't really passed his prime when he was killed, but he was kinda in the same boat as Ernie Irvan and Ricky Craven. He had been hurt really bad in a car, and probably really shouldn't have been back in a car. Niel wasn't known for having good rides after leaving Juniour Johnson either, so it's really doubtful that he could have pulled off a championship run. Tim Richmond could drive the wheels off of anything. He ran sprints, Indy's and NASCAR. He ran the Indy 500 several times. Had he not gotten into drugs, hookers, and had AIDS, Tim could have been the one that made NASCAR what it is today. He definately got HMS to where it is today. Without him, HMS would not exist, and jeffy would be just another also-ran at a local dirt track.

If they were still alive it is easy to speculate but I believeDale Sr. wouldnt have got his 6th or 7th Championship or near as many wins. Also dont forget about the 1992 Champion Alan Kulwicki!!!! He would have been a factor in this. Also Jeff Gordon probably wouldnt have gotten his 1st championship as early as he did. I believe Davey would have won a few of those championships. Tim Richmond certainly would have won a lot of races but I think his mind was to preoccupied to Concentrate on a Championship

Davey Allison definitely would have had a championship or two.
Tim Richmond had too many other things going on in his life to really be a consistent enough racer to get to the championship. If it hadn't been HIV that got him, it would have been something else. Think "James Dean," when considering Richmond's lifestyle.

If Davey stayed around Dale Earnhardt Sr would never have won 7 championships and Gordon wouldn't have his 4.

Davey Allison would have been something special.........Gordon may not have 4, Stewart may not have 2, and Sr may not have 7 if Davey was still around.

"IF" is the biggest word in the English language. It would have been great, but we will never know, unfortunately. The way the cars and racing have changed, you can never know what may have happened.
