I volunteered to go back on active duty from the Retired List 3 days after the attack on America. Unfortunately, under current law, my age prohibits such an action. But, in my defense I have hosted GIs at my home for ever significant holiday for the past 20 years. I live near a major air base. I'm retired Navy, but they are still my brothers and sisters in uniform. Please note for how long I've been doing that. It's important. That's because a lot of Americans who are whooping it up for the troops now wouldn't have given the time of day to any of those men and women on September 10, 2001. All of a sudden I'm surrounded by the "Petey Patriot Platoon" who fly their flags on the wrong side of the car, approach me wearing a vest festooned with flags and pins, and have the temerity to ask me where my red, white and blue is when we both know all of that paraphenalia lay unsold on the store shelves six years ago.
Let's face it. Most people really don't give a damn! We now have an all-volunteer force which has been " hired" to do the dirty work while we plan the next trip to the mall. Most couldn't find Iraq or Afghanistan on the map, let alone know one single word of Arabic, Urdu or Pashto. And they don't care to learn. The members of our armed forces take an oath to defend and support a document which less than one in five American adults has ever read: the Constitution. Were it not for that I would have gone quite insane during my time on active duty which included the Vietnam War.
I applaud your service to the nation. I pray for your safety and the safety of all of my shipmates and my brothers and sisters in arms. I also recognize that I am part of a "foreign country" called the armed forces of the United States, where we have our own strange manners of dress and speech, our own private gods and taboos, and our own totems. To hell with everyone else!

I would go in a heart beat!! My son will go if needed ( he told me so) and I would be sooooo proud if he did . His grades prove he can make it into any collage he wants but he knows the problems and is willing to commit. I applaud him for that .I would like him to go to the University of Michigan rather than go to war but if he chose the latter I would support him and all our Armed forces 100%

Well, I initially supported the war, but now that I've seen how worthless the Leftists in big cities are, I have to ask myself, "Why are we sacrificing soldiers to protect NYC, Los Angeles, and places like that?"
If the Left wants to pull our troops out of Iraq, then take their changes on not getting hit again back home, let them have their way. Fine with me.

I would leave tonight, but I already served 22 years in the Navy and am 60 years old. One of the things I would do is kick the Iraqis in the *** and tell them to man-up and fend for themselves and not rely on us to do it all!

I think everyone should serve.
You're not a true citizen unless you serve, well that's how I feel anyway.
I hate being a civilian.
I was sad about not being able to serve my country, and YES I would go.

Because I have already served in Iraq - and one other war besides.
I have done enough.
