Ireland is way better than Italy. Italy has opera and effete statues and Ireland has ME. Use your loaf.

Italy has interesting history, well-documented civilisation, great weather but much too hot in July and August, and amazing food ....

Ireland also has interesting history, myths more so than documented civilisation, interesting weather throughout the year and food that could be amazing if a little imagination was applied.

Both scourged by the Catholic church but thankfully getting over this.

Don't know which is better, to be honest. I've spent a lot more time in Ireland (was born and grew up there) but have been to Italy twice and love it there too.

I suppose that the Italians take themselves a bit more seriously, and that's not always a good thing, because if there's one thing the Irish are good at, it's to laugh at ourselves ....

I'm Irish, used to live in Italy. I love Italy, but this is home. People are friendlier here and generally more informal. Architecture is stunning there. Italians love it here, you wouldn't believe the amount of Italian students and tourists who come here. There's a lot in common actually, hard to put my finger on it, but I felt very at home in Italy, and my Italian friends tell me the same about living here.

A bit of both in my opinion. I like to alternate a bit of cool with heat and a bit of pasta with Guiness.
