My "faith" is in the search for truth and knowledge, the value of being honest with yourself, and the acceptance that everything people know or believe could very easily be completely wrong.
I think that it is wrong to anchor oneself to one set of beliefs and to cling to them no matter what. I think it is wrong for anyone to assume that they have knowledge of all the important things in life, and to believe that they do not need to learn anything else.
I find strength in the fact that a person can be in control of how they choose to view all things in the world and all the events they encounter. You may not be able to control everything, but you can decide how you want to react to it and how you want to perceive it.
I find comfort in the knowledge that one can be happy simply by deciding to be happy and that nothing else is really necessary.
I feel that it is perfectly OK to not know what happens after people die and that choosing to claim such knowledge will not benefit anyone in any way. However, I also think that it is interesting to investigate things that could shed some light on the subject - such as the nature of near death experiences and reports of fortean phenomenon.

I struggled with this answer for many years. My mom was super religious to the point where it pushed me away from church. I never went much from age 18 until now (34) and it is because I felt spiritually disconnected. I never found a place I liked that I felt like they weren't just a bunch of bible thumpers. But I had some things happen that were testing my faith.
I found a Unity Church just a few months ago. It's nice. They incorporate the Law of Attraction with God and it's believable and not pushy. You should try to find one in your area and just visit one week. The first week I was nervous because I hadn't been in so long. It's nondenominational, meaning anyone from any religious upbringing is welcome. Catholics, Jewish, Baptist... really anyone. Even people who've never been.
What it's done for me is give me peace. And another amazing thing has happened. I learned that the more I give, the more I receive. God blesses us through our gifts and doors have opened up for me that used to be walls. Good things are happening quickly in only a few months. I still have some things unresolved, but I'm going almost every week except when I have to work or I'm away on a business trip. "honor the Lord with your wealth and the firstfruits of all your crops. Then your barns will be filled to overflowing and your vats will brim over with wine." You will see what happens if you follow my advice.

Being annoyed by people who are "pushy about their faiths" isn't a bad thing. Faith should be a personal issue - something that each person discovers independently of religion.
There really is no universal sign that defines faith. Each person must trust the feelings in their heart and decide for themselves if they have faith in anything... and what that "thing" might be.
Personally, my faith is in my family - immediate family, extended family, and the gods with whom I walk. They give me strength to follow through, to survive against situations that seem devastating, and to continue to grow and become the better each day.

Thoughtful question...you get a star.
My faith in God comes through personal experience. I've seen enough things happen to know that there's someone else at work, and God is that person.
My walk with God has taken place over the past year and a half, almost two years now. I've found a church that I feel represents the true message that God is trying to send the world through his son Jesus Christ.
I'm sorry for the losses that you've had to endure. I hope you've been able to deal with them; if you need help, I'm always an email away.
And I've continued to read books that challenge my beliefs, only to find that they reaffirm them. A couple of suggestions if you're curious:

I have no faith, I am an atheist.
I have the strength that my parents helped me realise was always in me as a human being. I have the intelligence to trust what has good evidence of being the reality of the universe and the wisdom to know that it could be wrong (but almost definitely not in a major way.)

My faith is in God and it keeps me strong because I know that my life had a purpose and I was meant to exist and that im not some accident created by random chemicals being shoved together. I also know that my creator loves me enough to die for me, whatever I do and however many mistakes I make, which is the most amazing thing and I can look forward to spending eternity with Him. Well i guess faith is trusting in something you can't see or touch.

I am sorry about the deaths in your life. I have had a bunch of deaths too. My faith is in the Lord Jesus Christ. Because, even though you have trials and hard times in your life, God is with you all the way. God allows these things because(if you are saved) wants to see how strong your faith is in Him.
My Lord Jesus Christ is the only thing that gets me through the days.

My faith gives me strength to cope when things are bad in my life, although I faith, its my choice and I do not believe it should be pushed onto others.I think faith, religion etc is different for all us and we make up our own minds as to how and why things happen to us.In my case, faith gives me a helping hand when I'm down.
