I had a 'simple mastectomy' in 2003 the removal of the entire breast due to Cancer, A Radical Mastectomy is the removal of the breast & surrounding muscles

Mastectomy is a surgery to remove the breast from the body as a result of breat cancer and its important to prevent the spreading of the cancer to the other parts of the body.

Mastectomy - surgery to remove the entire breast, normally due to cancer.

Lumpectomy - surgery to remove just the tumour.

Axial node clearance - surgery to remove the lymph nodes of the armpit, usually in case of spread of cancer from the breast.

Sentinal node clearance - surgery to remove the lymph node closest to the cancer site for biopsy to determine if cancer has spread to the lymphatic system.
