Well, a recipe is just a "blueprint" to go by - everyone adds their own personal twist. Watch the Sunday papers for coupons and/or stock up when on sale because no matter which recipe you try to use, you will never get it exact no matter what.
I love Dinty Moore too & my local store runs buy one/get one free all the time so that's when I stock up on it!

I used to love that stuff too! Try this vegan version: Ingredients (use vegan versions): 1 pound extra firm regular tofu 1 large onion chopped 1 quart vegetable broth 5 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce 1 tablespoon tamari 2 cloves garlic finely chopped 4 of each large carrots and large peeled potatoes coarsely chopped 1 tomato seeded and diced 2 teaspoons salt 1 teaspoon each of pepper and basil 3 tablespoons soybean margarine 5 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with water until not lumpy Directions: Freeze the tofu and then let it thaw completely. Drain the water from the tofu, and cut into slices and squeeze more water out. Then cut the slices into chunks and bake at 200 degrees on an ungreased cookie sheet while chopping the rest of the ingredients (check the tofu about every 10-15 minutes so that it doesn't get browned - it should just be dried out, not burned). The tofu should be well dried out, like croutons. Place all of the prepared ingredients into a crockpot, stir well, and cook on high for at least 6-8 hours, stirring occasionally. The stew is ready when it is thick and brown. It makes a lot!

It is really not fair to say that all vegans are "intolerant, narrow minded, and dogmatic" And I don't get why you can understand a person being a vegetarian, but not a person being a vegan. After all, a Vegan is just a person who takes vegetarianism to the next level. If it is not OK to eat beef because the animal it comes from was severely abused in order for us to have a "nice dinner", then why does it make it OK for us to drink a glass of milk, when the animal it came from was also subjected to an awful life (Now I am talking about someone who is a vegan for ethical reasons). As for health reasons, what is wrong with taking a healthy lifestyle to the next level - cutting out the bad stuff entirely. Just because you have come across some narrow minded, intolerant, dogmatic vegans doesn't mean that we all are that way. Hell, I have come across some narrow minded, intolerant, dogmatic... right wing crazies that were meat- eaters. but I'm not gonna go ahead and make a generalization to say that all meat- eaters are that way. In fact, I would consider that narrow minded.

It will depend on the fruit or plant linked to a comparison. In the event that you compare a farrenheit to a carrot, the carrot is the better of the two nutritional. But since you compare an avocado to the carrot, then this avocado is better. The two the apple and avocado, are fruits.

Cut 3 lbs. boneless beef for stew (chuck, short rib, round) into 11/2" chunks and season liberally with salt, pepper, and whatever are your favorite dried herbs. I used oregano and thyme.
Dredge beef in all-purpose flour, shake off excess, then brown on all sides in about 2 T. olive oil in a large pot.
You can drain off the fat from the meat in the pot, but honestly, the fat tastes pretty damn good. Add to the pot 1 cup chopped onions, and sprinkle 1-2 tsp. of dried herbs (again, your choice), and pour in 3 c. beef broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a soft simmer and let cook until meat is tender. Mine took about an hour.
Add 5 large carrots peeled and cut into 1" slices, 3 large potatoes peeled and cut into 1" chunks, and 3-4 cloves of garlic, smashed. You may want to add a bit more beef broth if it has reduced down a lot. Season to taste with salt and pepper (about 1/2 tsp. each). Cook with the beef until the carrots and potatoes are soft, about 30 minutes
