Were you offended by Kathy Griffin's remark at the VMA's? "A lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus."
C'mon! Not only is that funny, but don't you think it is true? All kinds of people who obviously aren't Christ-like thank God every time they win award. At least she was honest in saying that God "Jesus" had nothing to do with it right? Granted, she should'nt have followed it with "Suck it Jesus!" But thats all relative.

She didn't offend me at all. She has the right to believe whatever she wants to.

Why do so many Christians find it offensive if someone says their god did nothing for them yet are outraged at the idea of not being able to spew Jesus at everyone else?

Not at all. If someone had done this to any other Deity or Religion, the Christians would all be cheering. (Example: No one said a word when Bush stated Wicca is not a real religion and he didn't view them nor Atheists as True Citizens because of their lack of Christian Faith)

Below is a site with some of her remarks afterwards. One being "Am I the only Catholic left with a sense of humor?" In here today I have seen so many call her an Atheist and here she is stating she's Catholic. Later in the same article it states by another person that she is a self-described militant atheist. So which is it?

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences reacted responsibly to our criticism of Kathy Griffin's verbal assault on 85 percent of the U.S. population," Donohue said in a statement on the group's Website. "The ball is now in Griffin's court. The self-described 'complete militant atheist' needs to make a swift and unequivocal apology to Christians. If she does, she will get this issue behind her.

The second site is hers... if you go to the bottom you find that her father recently passed and she asks for prayers for her family. Would a Militant Atheist ask for prayers? Do people even look into this stuff before they start ranting?

I don't think she needs to apologize. I think people need to lighten up.

Ever since I was a kid and would go to school sporting advents I always thought it was strange for people to pray "Lord help me win"

I asked myself:

1. With so many other things going on in the world why would the outcome of a sporting advent really matter?

2. If their were two Christians competing against each other Why would God play favorites?

And if God truly cared who won the VMA's surly Kathy Griffin and others who don't believe in God would never win.

The Bible says:
"Render unto Caesar therefore what is Caesars'; render unto God what is Gods'."

I think that if there had been a Hollywood, TV, Movies, and Big time sports like Nascar and the NFL when Jesus was on earth, then the passage above would include these things along with Caesar!

It usually takes a lot to offend me, and I think Kathy Griffin is a very funny comedian (I'm not sure if she's funny or just outrageous) and has been through a lot in her personal life too, so I can't say that I personally was very offended by her comments. It did "raise my eyebrows" though - I couldn't believe she said it. I thought to myself, "man, if I was one of her PR people she has on her show, I'd be calling damage control right now!!!!!! I MEAN D*M* KATHY G!!!!!!!!

However, I know a lot of people (who I also admire) who are closer to Jesus than me and for very good reasons and were very offended by her comments (And btw, they aren't religious fundamentalist loonies or anything, just average folks who don't like hearing JC crucified again. So, in that respect, I'd have to side with the JC people and not the KG people.

I understand it's all just words, which is why I must confess that I too thought it was funny, unfortunately, I also have found out that their are a very few shall we say "not so nice folks" out there who consider it more than just words and consider it a major opportunity to continue going about their plan to ruin things for the rest of us. And we all know it only takes a few to ruin it for the rest of us. So this has to be taken into consideration too.

You do have a good point about the opposite happening, non-religious people thanking a god they know nothing about. Another reason I'm not too concerned about this.

Just don't do it again Kathy (yea, right, like we can count of that happening) LOL, but really you're right in a way, bellesnail, at some point we really have to lighten up, people.

Oh and just one more thing, er, uh, Kathy, I know you were really excited to win an Emmy (does this mean you move up to the C list?). but, I really hope you don't go around worshipping a golden statue as your god, like you said (historically, it's just a really bad thing to do, leads to utter chaos and stuff like that, don't ya know.). Of course you know!!! You're a Catholic!!!

People can thank whoever they want. If she didn't want to thank Jesus - she didn't have to do it. Still - I find it a little odd. I mean - a lot of people thank their parents too. So - why didn't she get up there and say - "the parents of the other musical artists didn't have anything to do with me winning this award - so I'm not thanking them!" I'll tell you why - because she was trying to make a point. I don't think awards are the place to make points about religion or politics.

I'm not a Christian - and I wasn't offended - but I don't really support that kind of behavior.

Namaste!

Yes, I was offended.

In her speech, Kathy Griffin said "A lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus," an exultant Griffin said, holding up her statuette. "Suck it, Jesus. This award is my god now."

Ms. Griffin has the freedom of speech to say very horrible things to insult many millions of people. But those millions of people also have the freedom of speech to tell Ms. Griffin that her speech was insensitive and offensive.

Freedom of speech goes both ways.

The Catholic League, an anti-defamation group, called on the TV academy to "denounce Griffin's obscene and blasphemous comment."

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences agreed and said in a statement, "Kathy Griffin's offensive remarks will not be part of the E! telecast."

Can you imagine the uproar if Ms. Griffin had said Allah or Muhammed instead of Christ?

I am not a fan of Kathy Griffin .But I think her remark was right on . I am sick of people thanking the rosary beads on their rear view mirrors , Atheletes praying on the sideline for Jesus to kep them from injury , Jockeys thanking Jesus for winning big races , Rap artists thanking God that their Racist , Anti women , Anti societal CD won an award , and so on . And when things turn out bad and the swinging rosary beads distract them and they drive into a tree they say " God must have a bigger plan for me" Yeah , he want's to make you an even bigger idiot !

Why should her remarks offend me? She's entitled to her opinion. Stupid remarks happen on award shows all the time. Plus mediocre talent is awarded and applauded. That's why I never watch them.

God Bless.

Yes I am offended.
First and foremost Kathy Griffin needs to get saved. What she doesn't realize or understand is that Jesus had everything to do with her getting that award. He is her Creator and gave her the very breath that she is breathing. The sad part is that she refuses to acknowledge Him and she will suffer in eternity for it.
Do I appreciate her honesty? Well, yes in a way I do. I'm glad she's not sauntering up there thanking Jesus like most other self deceived people. They will be among the one's that say "Lord, Lord" and He will say "depart from me, you who practic iniquity. I never knew you."
I think her last remark was completely unnecessary. However, I understand that she is lost in her sin, and therefore can do nothing else but sin.

Well she is going to regret every word that she said out of her mouth. Yes. I am offended by the remark that Kathy Griffin said. Celebrities are wordly and full of sin anyways. They are whorshipping the image of the Oscar, Emmy, and Grammy as a "God." In the Ten Commandments God says:

Exodus 20:3-4 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.

She said something to the fact the the award was her God now. Like Kathy and many other celebrities their souls are lost. If she is not careful God's wrath will fall upon her and it will not be nice. God does not like wicked and will cast those who want to sin and speak wickedness into the LAKE OF FIRE.

That is not the only thing about Kathy Griffin that offends me. She has a far too good opinion of herself, so she's not really interested in mine. Suffice it to say, that I won't be buying a ticket for any of her performances, nor will I miss her when she finally dries up and blows away.If she really was avant-garde, why didn't she say Allah had nothing to do with it? Oh, yeah, it's less deadly to offend Christians, that's it.
