My Army unit had several Navy dog handlers attached to us during raids and other operations. They had the same risk as any other member of our unit while accompanying us. They always did an outstanding job, even in the thickest of combat situations. We also had Navy EOD teams who often responded to disable IEDs/ roadside bombs. So yes, they are out there and depending on their job might be at great risk even if they are Navy.
