According to Lyotard, the "PostModern Condition" is characterized by a suspicion of all grand metanarratives - overarching schemes that serve to explain or legitimate all other discourses.
But then, one has to wonder whether this way of describing cultural and intellectual history isn't itself a metanarrative, and suspect on that very basis.
(Lyotard seems to have confused Wittgenstein's notions of "language games" (Sprachspiel) with another of his notions, the "world-picture" (Weltbilt) - but I digress.)
I certainly won't try to tell you the correct world-picture to accept. In doing that, reasons eventually give out and one resorts to persuasion, because reasons are always already part of some language-game or another, which cannot itself be justified. That doesn't have to mean suspicion. (Doubt too only functions against a background of belief.) But I suppose a certain circumspection is called for.

It is time for a renewal, and a major "home makeover", and for a mighty wind to cast out its untimely figs.
