You have 12 drivers, and 10 races. Each race in the Chase you elimenate the lowest finishing driver of the 12. Then when you get to the last race you have 3 drivers going for the Cup. That would also be your top 3 for the season. Talk about drama for your final race.

What happens when JPM takes out your driver on lap 1 at NH?

You would be pissed!

The drivers and owners would never support that rule change!

not a bad idea but i would also make the top 12 drivers safe for the first 5 races next year all others half to qualify after that top12 all season not top 35

what i don't like about your idea is the same thing i don't like about the chase in general, it doesn't allow drivers to make a late comeback, how many people not in the chase could come back strong in the last 10 races?

if you are going to have a race for the chase i say throw away the points for the first 20 races and make it so a win qualifies you for the chase and then bring in points,

the other idea i like is this, if your going to have a chase in the last ten races again no points and now no qualifying, each race starts in the same position the last race finishes, basically make the last 10 races one long race first one to the checkered wins the cup, this way your title fight goes down to the last lap of the last race no mater what

but all in all i hate the chase, the fans of the 31 other cars have nothing to hope for, and if it wasn't for sponsors insisting that their logos got air time most of these teams wouldn't race at all once they were eliminated from the chase

Though it would be exciting, why does one race carry more importance than another? I wouldn't like this format. Also, if you went to this system you would have to take the last of the 12 drivers in the points standings, not necessarily the last one of the race.

When I first read this, I thought...stupid.

BUT I have to admit, this is a pretty good idea. If you look at the NFL playoffs, it's one screwed up game and you're done. This would use that basic format. HOWEVER...you have to give the drivers who did better in the year a little bit of help...maybe give the first 5 drivers a 3 "bye weeks", where they wouldn't have to worry about getting kicked out in the first three races (the NFL gives the better teams help in the same way).

I'm not a fan of the chase. I like the old points system as it reward consistency. The Chase as you describe it would be exciting and filled with wrecks, especially in the final few races. I think the term would be the Checkers or Wreckers Cup.

not a real good idea use your head.
your favorite driver wins 6 races in a row then on the seventh race gets caught in a wreck.

How, that would really make every one get super aggressive on the track, sounds great, but I doubt something like that would ever happen...
