I need help and advice on how to choose a good electronic keyboard for the family. This is something I know absolutely nothing about so good advice will very much appreciated. HOw do we choose a GOOD one ? What features should be included ? And Is Yamaha better than Casio and if so which model ? I tend to think that perhaps Yamaha will be a better brand. Anything please let me know and thank you so much.

Ok, I work in a music shop and it's my job to sell keyboards among other things, so i'll give you some advice! The two main makes are Yamaha and Casio. The Yamaha PSR series have three main models -
PSR-E203 £99.99
PSR-E313 £149.99
PSR-E403 £199.99
The more you pay, the more features you get (ie-more voices, styles and recording facilities and the speakers are better, so therefore a better sound). The PSR-E203 is NOT touch sensitive so does not respond to how soft or light you press the keys. The PSR-E313 and above are touch sensitive. I'd advise you to go for one with this feature. You can pay anything up to £2,000 (for the Yamaha Tyros II). Have a look at the PSR3000 and PSR500 too if you want a very versatile keyboard. Most Yamaha keyboards have a USB port so this enables you to like it to your computer, or use a USB stick to transfer data.

Casio's range starts with the CTK series. We don't seem to sell as many of them as Yamaha, but they are very good also. The most common size of keyboard is a 5 octave, but Casio have 6 octave ones too which basically have more notes.

I'd advise you to have a look at the Yamaha PSR-E403 to be honest. It's a very good buy and has many features.

I hope this information is of help.
