My neighbor's chihuahua had a kind of icky obsession...
Any orrifice in the face, the dog would lick inside of it...your nose, your ears, your mouth, sometimes even your eyes.
It's like the dog would just dig and dig until you were sparkling clean, and you really had to use some force to get her off of you.
It was really gross. Now visitors know that when they hold the dog, it's best to be seated and have it in their lap, so they can keep her from jumping up and being discusting.
I have no idea about my neighbor's dog, or yours, but I'm going to guess a little TOO affectionate...

I have a 5-6 year old Golden Retriever/Basset mix and he will lick the ears of any dog or cat that will let him. He'll do it until their whole heads are wet!

My lhasa apso, may she rest in peace, loved to lick my daughter's ears-used to drive me crazy.

some dogs are just like that.... They like the taste...
I had a Poodle who "HAD" to lick my husband's head, the entire scalp every day. He is bald on top so he just keeps the whole head shaved off.... It was her "job" her "duty" and no amount of don't do that would deter her from her "obligation." Even if he would physically stop her pull her down away from his head she would go right back to it and start licking from the point he stopped her.

I have a cat that is the same way. I did some research on this and found out that this action can sometimes be caused if the animal is taken away from its mother too soon.

Thats how a Lhasha Apso checks things out. They lick, sniff and use their sensitive tongue to explore. Perfectly OK.

My pit bull loves to lick ears too. She licks our ears and even the cat's ears. I don't know why they do that. My cat cannot stand for her to do this to him.

He is just showing his love & devotion to you & everyone else. He sound VERY LOVING. Why they do it that way no body knows but that is one sign of subservience to you. I have a Pom who does this to everyone from my husband through my son on down through the other dogs & the cat.
