You must understand the symbolism of this act to get the message. Foot washers in that culture were the lowest servants, the bottom of the barrel. It was a totally humble position. The point He was making is that we are to seek to humbly serve each other, not seeking glory for our service or honor, but be willing to take the lowest position in service to others. I don't believe Christ meant that we should do that very act in our culture, but understand the meaning behind what He did.

Yeah...no problem. I've washed peoples butts before - (babies, kids, elderly/disabled people in nursing homes when I was an aide). The true question is...are you willing to have your feet washed by another? The connotations with foot washing isn't today what it was back in Jesus's time. When ever people would gather at another persons home, the servents of the house would greet them and remove shoes and wash feet so the guests could enter the house without tracking stuff. Peoples feet were always dirty back then. The servant wouldn't get their feet washed because they were way down on the social scale. Now days, mostly because people don't have those same social structures it would be something else...like having the cook sit at the table while you made them a meal if you were say....Donald Trump. Something like that...not that Donald Trump would prolly wanna wash anyones feet either...I dunno...but for the common regular person...providing service to someone, because of the changes that Jesus has wrought in the world in the last 2000 years, has made serving and providing for people more of a common thing...I don't have any servants in my house and I never will...but I've been a servant sorta. I don't know. Now that I come to look at it the really wealthy lady I worked for probably wouln't haul my luggage to the airport for preflight check in or pick up my dry cleaning...so I can sorta see where there is still this piety of the uber-privaledged over the regular joe. I'm glad to be a regular joe...though I think there are wealthy people out there that serve. Sorry...too much coffee..not enough sleep...babbling. Sure, I'll wash your feet. I'll even clip yer toe nails and loofa your calluses. God bless you. Love in Christ, ~J~

Well, since I am going into the medical profession, I may have to. I do once in a while give my grandkids baths. I may even consider a very close friend. But I doubt it if anyone would being willing to wash me(othe than the hubby).

Yes. I've washed worse things that that.

I get your point though, and to answer your question, yes and I'd be honored to do so.

Sometimes I think about that when I go to get a pedicure. It's kind of a humbling thought.

The washing is easy. I have on many occasions. In both the necessity of my Grandmothers, and in the sense you mean, in church, the hard part, is allowing someone to wash yours. that to me, if much harder, no my name is not Peter, but I do understand his hesitation.

Yes, I would. I am no better than anyone else. Washing somebody else's feet shows that we do not think ourselves higher than anyone else
