LDS members, why does the LDS church not allow women to hold the preisthood but in the RLDS church they can?

Men need a unique responsibility or they would not get off the couch. Women are inherently more spiritual and less deviant. Crime statistics support this.

I was not aware that women in the RLDS church are given the priesthood. However, the RLDS is considered an apostate group by the LDS, and their authority is invalid whether it is held by men or women. What they do is their own business. As far as LDS is concerned, the priesthood is only given to those men who have been found worthy of holding the priesthood. This is the way that the Lord has instructed us to handle the priesthood. The Biblical record supports this stance as well.

The LDS church and the RLDS church really have nothing to do with each other, aside from working together to preserve some historical sites.
Lady's can not be ordained to the priesthood, as that would not be following the directives given to the prophets. They have a calling to be mothers, and do use the priesthood in some ordnances (including in the temple) with out having to be ordained to it.

It is true that at this time only men are ordained to the Aaronic and Melchizedek priesthoods. Men can not obtain the fullness of the priesthood without a wife. When you see a man appointed as a temple president or mission president, it is as a couple. So there is a deeper purpose to the priesthood to build eternal relationships. To allow women the same priesthoods would create a competition, not a bond.

Because in the LDS church, the church runs according to revelation given by Jesus Christ through living prophets. I can't comment on how the RLDS church does it, other than it's different than the way I just described for the LDS church. :-)

different churches, different doctrines. It's not the only thing the two churches differ on.

women play an integral part in the whole of God's plan - just as they are. I am a single mom and there are no priesthood holders in my home - However, that does not mean that I cannot benefit from or call upon the power of the priesthood.

:) I have plenty of responsibility, and can certainly allow this one to slip off my shoulders and onto those of men!

Isolde - WONDERFUL answer and very true...I think it would create problems.
The men are the patriarch of the family, that does not mean the women are lesser to men...we each just have our divine roles. As pointed out also, men and women both need each other to reach the highest level of exaltation in the Celestial Kingdom...eternal marriage is possible through the Priesthood, so we both need that.

How many female Catholic priests do you see walking around?
Women have their places in every situation in society! Some high, some equal, and some lower! It doesn't make it a blow against Women's Lib either! It is just a fact of life!

Men have the priesthood, women have motherhood...

(LDS statement, not my own...)

Because God said only men can hold it.
