say hi. and just start off with small talk, maybe ask him about a book you reading or the way to the bathroom. Ask him about what type of books he like to read or maybe ask him does he like working in such a quiet place all the time. Small talk may lead to big talk!

I think it's funny to say you've "fallen" for someone whom you've never spoken a word to. :) But, what is it that he's doing on that computer anyway? Can he help you locate something within the library perhaps? Do you have any papers or projects you're working on that need a hard-to-find reference? I guess my point is I would find out his function at the library, and think about something related to it that I could ask his help with.

ok...well 1st off i think u should say hi next time u guys stare @ each other. that may just start up a convo. either that or go up 2 him and talk 2 him. ask him 2 help u find something on the comp or in the library. hope it works!

Start with "Hi, my name is." Then chat with him a little. Ask him if he'd like to go out for lunch or something. You know the drill.

Both wonderful suggestions. I'd go with both and then after he helps you locate your very difficult, time consuming item ;-), thank him & ask him if it would be too presumptuous to invite him for a cup of coffee.
