the story of how Joseph Smith came to find the Book of Mormon?

All religious differences aside, it does seem a little far-fetched, dont you think?

If they don't believe it that's fine. Many do not believe in Christ, or God, let alone in a modern prophet. It is very far-fetched, improbable and contrary to common sense, or else it is true. So if you dismiss it and pass it by, that is understandable and your right. If you know it is true, and build up disputes against it, you are only fooling yourself.

Yeah it does seem far fetched...so does:
Moses parting the red sea
Noah and the flood
Adam living to be over 900 years old
Manna falling from the sky to feed thousands
Angels appearing to prophets
...etc...

That is why I have asked my Heavenly Father if it is true. He has answered and I know, just as sure as I know I am breathing, that the gospel is true, the restoration really happened and that Joseph saw and did what he claimed.
I say, find out for yourself, don't take my word for it. Faith brings about miracles...and believing in the unbelievable is a miracle I think.

At first I did believe it was far-fetched especially since I was not always a christian and I'm not one to believe anything, but the missionaries asked me to read about it and pray about it. So I didnt take their word for it. I learned on my own that the Book of Mormon is true and that Joseph Smith was a prophet by praying about it in faith.

Well, Moses parted the red sea, Jesus was born to a virgin, Jesus fasted for 40 days and nights without dying, blind man saw because mud was put on his eyes, a man was risen from the dead, there was a flood that wiped out the earth, except for a man who built a boat and then put every species of animal on it for 40 days, a man goes into a hungry lions den, and remains unharmed, ...should i continue? All of these bible stories are so beyond human comprehention, and yet millions of people believe them, and have faith in their meanings without even a seconds thought. Why? because it's been around longer? It's widely accepted because of it's long history? There is no physical proof that any of these things even took place, and yet millions of people believe without a doubt in their mind. Why? Because, God is beyond human comprehention. If things could be explained away, they would not be divine intervention, and there would be no basis for us to believe in a God. There would be nothing special about it. So when you ask if i feel that a boy went into the woods, with a genuine desire to know of what religion to join, and Heavenly Father and Jesus appeared to him, and said that he should join none, no i don't think it's far fetched. I don't think it is far fetched, that in a time of religous confusion and peril, that God would have answers for those willing to listen and have faith. That is where the BofM comes into play. It answers the questions the bible leaves. We need both to have a complete understanding of God's plan and our purpose here. None of the other prophets were special for any particular reason before God appeared to them, or worked through them. Why does Joesph have to fall under certain guidelines to be believed? Remember, people have mocked and scorned and disbelieved, all of God's prophets at one or more times. Does that make them not true? No it's the people that are later chastised in the bible for not believing. Not the prophet. What i find far fetched, is that people don't believe that God loves us as much as he loved those in biblical times. Why would he give them personal direction through prophets, give them the priesthood, give them miracles and blessings and not us?

No more far-fetched than a man feeding five thousand people with a couple of loaves and a few fishes...or more far-fetched than a man raising another man from the dead by commanding him to do so....or more far-fetched than a man raising himself from the dead and ascending into heaven...

You get the idea, I presume? :-)

As in all matters of faith, one must rely upon the Holy Spirit for confirmation as to the truthfulness of spiritual things. We in the LDS church are encouraged to pray on these things and determine for ourselves whether or not they are true. I would say the same thing to people who don't believe: pray and ask God, with sincere heart, if it isn't true, after reading the doctrine and understanding what Joseph Smith really taught. (It just may change your life...)

no more so than burning bushes, pillars of fire and clouds, walking on water, not being burned by fire, igniting wet wood, surviving a hungry lions den.

I Cherish these stories from the Bible and believe them -- I also believe that Joseph Smith brought forth the Book of Mormon through miraculous means -- God works in mysterious ways (far fetched is a matter of perspective).

They say the samething that people of all religions say to non-believers "You're going to hell because you're wrong and we're right."

"All religious differences aside, it does seem a little far-fetched, dont you think?" All religions have ideas and theories that are farfetched.

People who merely don't believe, I say, well, you don't believe, nothing I can do about that.

But, when you make us sound like a bunch of idiots because we do believe it, that's a different story.

None of it is far-fetched, if you have faith. All you have to do is pray about to know that it is true.
