Paul said something about going to the third heaven. So it's in the Bible.
There are no inconsistencies between the Bible and the Book of Mormon, only in your interpretation of the Bible, and the Book of Mormon.

The book of mormon and the bible are equal. We do not hold any one above the other. Now when we die, we go to the spirit world (which is split up into Prison and Paradice, and you can guess who goes where.) This is the Heaven that the bible talks about. It is a temperary state where we reside before being resurected and judged. In Genisis, it talks about how God created the heaven and the earth. If God created the heaven and the earth, then where was he. We have come to understand that this heaven that God created was the spirit world that all spirits go to after they die. After time we are all judged and resurected where we are devided into our kingdoms, acording to our faithfulness and works on earth (see James 2:14-26). The description of the different degrees of Glory are mentioned in Paul's Epistle to the Corinthians in chapter 15, verses 40-42. This talks about the glorys, that each differs from the others. These talk about the glory that we each receve by receving bodys and having imortality. There is the terrestial, telestial and celestial kingdoms. Which one of them that we go to depends on the choises we make during our mortal life.

Try 2 Corinthians 12:2.
I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven.
Anyway, the Bible and The Book of Mormon compliment each other. The Book of Mormon restores many of the truths lost during the Bible's many compilations and translations. We study them both. In fact, our course of study in Sunday school this year is the New Testament.

It is not very cut and dry. The skinny is they believe in the Bible "King James Version" and the Book of Mormon. They believe the Book of Mormon is in addition to the Bible and that Joseph Smith translated from Golden Plates that he found in the woods, but are now back up in heaven with God. The plates were placed in the woods by the last Nephite. A Nephite was a a person from the lost tribes of Israel. Silly huh?

The mormons do NOT believe that the bible and the book of mormon are equal in teaching and authority and they do NOT believe that Jesus Christ WAS God incarnate. They believe Jesus was A god, not GOD. My good friend is a long time mormon and very active in the mormon church. She will tell you that Mormons and Christians are NOT at all equal in what they believe or in how the two books are valued. If you study the background of the Book of Mormon, you will see the many changes in their teachings, one being - black person were
considered cursed in the earlier 'version' of the book of mormon. Later they changed the teaching to include black people (how convient) as they realized people who were considering becoming a mormon did not want to belong to a church that believed black people were cursed. Just study the many different changes to the book of mormon....not how it is interpreted, but actual changes through the years....many many! Sad! A sad 'group' actually. They also teach that Jesus and Satan were originally brothers - wow!!! So sad.....

Aunti_m19 makes a wonderful point... there must be levels, because not even all "good" people are as "good" as others. Like, I feel as though I am a pretty good person but I know there are many who are much better than me, and not all "bad" people are as "bad" as some others...
I believe that "hell" has an end, that those who do not repent for their sins, whatever they may be, will have to account for them and that will be their hell. But, once those sins are "paid" for, their hell will be over and they will go to whatever kingdom or degree of glory they have attained.
If you want to know more about the characteristics/criteria for the inhabitants of each kingdom, go to LDS.org and go to the Doctrine & Covenants online text, section 76...I think it starts in about verse 50...Joseph Smith sees a vision of each of the Kingdoms. it's pretty interesting.
As far as the inconsistencies, it all comes down to interpretation. We believe the bible and Book of Mormon go hand in hand together, one testifies of the other and both testify of Christ.

The sun, the moon, and the stars. Three levels of heaven the bible clearly states the levels of heaven. Do you think Mother Theresa and Saddam Husein are going to be neighbors in heaven? All of God's children will go to heaven and then will they be judged and given their degree of glory to live eternally. God loves everyone and all will be given a second chance. All will not receive the same level of glory. Those who do not accept him, will be cast to outer darkness for all eternity.

Actually Paul taught this doctrine in 1 Corinthians 15:40-42:
40 There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.
41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.
42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:
So the question is....if Paul believed it, why don't you?
The two books you are referring to are the Bible and the Book of Mormon, I assume? I don't think there are inconsistencies between the two books, only inconsistencies between the Book of Mormon's clarifications of true doctrine taught in the Bible and your church's interpretation of that doctrine. The Word of God takes precedent, and we believe the Bible to be the Word of God as far as it is translated correctly. We also believe the Book of Mormon to be the Word of God.

As others have said, there are a few references to more than one Heaven, or degree. The question has been answered, and I am not needed.
