Spyware is a program with the main objective of monitoring users activities. But it can also steal private information, install unwanted software, redirect browsers to other websites than the ones the user wants to visit or even displays advertisements.

You are infected with spyware if:

* You see too much pop-up advertisements.
* Your browser has toolbars that you haven't installed.
* Your homepage has changed (and you can't change it back).
* Other settings have changed without your permission.
* Your computer is slow.

To get rid of spyware and keep your computer clean you have to use an antispyware or even more.

To remove spyware,I recommend XoftSpy Se.
XoftSpy Se Features:
*Remove Spyware, Adware

Spybot search and destroy is bad news. I would get rid of it if I were you. It is supposed to get rid of spyware anyway not viruses. If you google it most people think it itself is spyware. Get ad-aware, it is free and works really really well. it will deal with the trojan. just do a full system scan and give it about 10-20 minutes and then check all of the boxes in the menu. It takes a while to delete trojans. But it does the job. AVG is also good against viruses and it is free. Also get windows defender, it is a must have.But if you are willing to pay then windows live onecare is defiantly your best bet. It stops viruses and spyware before it downloads. Norton has also gone downhill it does not do as good a job as the earlier versions did and slows your computer down quite a bit. Hope I helped. P.S. if none of these work then go into a computer store and they will deal with it.

My experience is McAfee 10 in 1 or 8 in1 suite. I have tried Norton software. It doesn't always catch spyware, adware or other viruses. I had scanned my home PC's (three of them), Norton missed few of them. McAfee catches and cleans the missing items. Yahoo offers free Spyware and Pop-up blockers. You need to scan of your PC routinely, especially sites offer goodies or freebies. They love to track your habits and keystrokes.
You need to set up your Internet Explore security and privacy at least medium. Occasionally you needs to adjust them to visit some sites, but remember to reset them back.
Microsoft offers free virus and spyware software from its site. You should also download the latest updates from Microsoft free of charge.

Get a good security program, and you won't have to bother with removal programs. Norton 2007 is a very good one. Norton 2008 just gobbles up way to much space.

I think its a matter of opinion--I have tried a lot of different ones and they all seem about the same--just keep the ones you have updated to protect against new virus's, worms, etc.
