I'm not overweight myself, but there are obese people in my family and I see nothing wrong with them. I could see if you were morbidly obese, then yes you should should lose weight. However those people that are, why is it any of your concern? There are tons of question on here with people bashing fat people and parents with fat kids, but why is it your business. How does it effect you if they lose weight or not?

What's wrong with being fat is that it's bad for the person's health. People say that it's a drain on our health care system but so is people who abuse drugs and alcohol. Food addiction is very real and that's why some people have to go to counselling to deal with their food issues. I had an aunt who was very obese and miserable. She got tired of feeling sorry for herself so she got off her bum and did something about it. Not everyone is able to do that but it came a time in her life where she took control of the situation and battled her food demons and she won. I say she won but not without hard work and determination. I don't bash fat people or anyone else but I can see where you're coming from and there is a lot of people bashing those who do have a weight problem. Obesity is a growing problem in our society.

it doesn't concern anyone on here; however it's the school yard picking on the "inferior" mentality that needs to be changed around this country. What happened to respecting others? My sister is overweight and I'd take out any person that even attempted to bash her. She has health issues from a young age and will always be big no matter what. her body will not shed the fat. She eats healthy, and doesn't drink soda. It doesn't take away from the fact that she's the most loving person I've ever known!

If you're asking how other people's obesity affect society at large, then it's time to examine how the effects of obesity, like the growing population of people with Diabetes and Hypertension, are placing a burden on the US healthcare system. Obesity related diseases also affect the workplace in that these employees are more likely to be sick and absent from the workplace.

This isn't an issue of aesthetics, but of societal resources and health.

Yeah, I totally agree. I can see why people say "bad parenting" when it's a small baby who's INCREDIBLY obese like the ones you see on talk shows. There was a 2 yr old on maury povich who was 80 pounds! I have no clue why people bash fat people so much. I think that maybe they're miserable w/their own lives and need to look down on someone else to make themselves feel better. sad

Being overweight increases ones chances of heart problems, joint problems, and other health issues associated with being overweight (some of which are side-effects of the primary issues).

If someone wants to be fat, it's their business. I was obese for a decade and I knew it was unhealthy, I knew I paid more for plus sized clothing, I knew I had to squeeze my butt into theater and airplane seats, I knew I got winded taking a short walk, I knew I wasn't physically attractive, and I knew a lot of my overeating was due to emotional issues so I didn't need anyone else to tell me these things...when I got sick of looking and feeling like I did, I made a change.

For anyone who chooses to be fat, that's their call...when they're ready to get rid of it, there are some of us in the world (online and off) who are ready to help them with advice and encouragement.

It's a lot more difficult to lose the weight, than it was to put it on.

who hates fat human beings and what do you think approximately as fat? i think of fat is somebody who shows a brilliant form of flab on their physique, and huffs and puffs while they walk... it is risky for their wellness. a brilliant form of people seem super yet are very greater healthy. If it is affecting someones wellness then it fairly is an issue. i do no longer hate fat human beings yet might hate to be fat myself.... i'm a length 12 and basically 5ft 3 some would say that become fat... yet i think of it is high quality.

Honestly people trying to lose weight sometimes its impossible because they would have to re-regulate their entire digestive system AND their entire body as a whole, before they start losing weight and keep it off. That is why dieting never works for people to lose weight. Sometimes its a result of genetics and sometimes its from what they were fed as a child and how their body system developed.

But to answer ur question, I wish people would realize how hard it is to lose weight. I am very skinny but my sister tries so hard to lose weight and it doesnt happen. Its obvious that its not what shes eating its something way more complex. Shes been trying for years to lose weight. Thats why people need to stop judging others so much about problems they cannot control.

It's a way insecure or just plain nasty people can insult others by using "it costs taxpayers". People who use illegal drugs for recreation are also costing the taxpayers and supporting the illegal drug trade that has absolutely destroyed our inner city neighborhoods. I don't see constant bashing of club-goers. They're pretty people.

sleepingliv, I guess you want to ban all handicapped people from public transportation as well?

This is another 'bad wagon' issue and it teaches our young people how to be bigots.

Heart problems, poor circulation, high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid, cancer, asthma....

I don't SEE anything wrong with it... but I do worry about health. The more fat you have, the more stress it puts on your body. You should be concerned for your family. I understand that your point is about people being rude to people who struggle with their weight. I myself struggle with my weight. It is hurtful not just to the person getting teased but to the people who love them as well. So, I'm sorry you are hurting. I know how that feels. The media portrays people who are way too skinny... which causes so many young girls to turn to eating disorders.

Hope you feel better!

With all due respect, try sitting next to an obese person on public transportation or getting stuck behind an obese person going up the stairs in a crowded subway. At least that's how it affects me.

edit: lovetotalk - I answered the question as I honestly feel it affects me. Perhaps the obese person should "effing" stand since they are taking up double the space and I only take up one, but that is besides the point. I never said big people were lazy, I'd just prefer to sit next to a slim person.

I'm sorry that your sister has health issues. I have sisters too and I'd defend them to the death, however, I'm sticking to my guns here.
