we don't worship Mormon so it is VERY inaccurate but it is an OK nickname that we live with because it is SO recognizable.

Do Christians take offense at being called Christian? Both nicknames were started in a negative way, mean to be rude and condescending. Now, the name Mormon has stuck, and it is what most people know us as. I do not take offense to it, and do not really have a preference. When people ask me what religion I am, I usually just say I am Mormon, because it is easier to say. lol. I know that the Church has encouraged us to be asked to be called LDS, or Latter-Day Saints, but I don't mind what you call me. I know that some people are offended by being called Mormon though.

Personally, I am happy to be called a Mormon. It's easier to say than "a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints," LOL. :-)
The reason our leaders are trying to emphasise the name of the Church is, I believe, because of continual criticism from other Christians that we are not Christian, or the misconception that we worship some other god (or person), other than the real God. We do, in fact, worship God the Father, and his Son Jesus Christ.
I don't find it at all offensive to be called a Mormon, and I think most Mormons/LDS would feel the same, even though "Mormon" is a nickname we were given by antagonists, in early LDS history.
I hope your day is a beautiful one!
Love from MumOf4. :-)

Well, to be technically correct, the official name of the church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The members of the church are properly termed Latter-day Saints, or simply, saints. The use of this terminology more accurately describes who we are and who we worship.
In the early days of the church, enemies of the church began calling its members "Mormons", after the name of one of our books of scripture, called The Book of Mormon (which was compiled by an ancient prophet named Mormon). The nickname stuck, and is commonly used today. Although we don't take offense at being called Mormons, it should be understood that we do not call ourselves The Mormon Church, or The Church of Mormon, etc. It is Jesus Christ's church, and the name of the church should reflect that.

Well it is not really offensive- we are really just counciled not to refer to ourselves as Mormon.
First off calling ourselves Mormons gives the mistaken impression we are the church of Mormon and that we worship Mormon. That is not true we Worship Jesus christ Mormon was just a prophet. Our church's official Name is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
The other reason is that the term Mormon is quickly becoming a term that refers to anybody who uses the Book of Mormon in their worship and recoginizes Joseph Smith as a prophet. Not everyone who recognizes Joseph Smith as a prophet and Reads the Book of Mormon is LDS, Just like in Christianity- not everyone who follows Christ is a Catholic.
I am not offended by being called Mormon, as long as people realize that I don't believe the same thing as all the polygamist and fundamentalist groups who also call themselves Mormon.

I don't really mind, all my friends call me a Mormon, and I doubt they even know the real name of my church, I find in any given situation where I tell someone what church I belong to I have to include the nick name Mormon so they know what I'm talking about.

I don't know about other members of the Church, but I prefer to be called a "Latter-day Saint" than a "Mormon." In my opinion the word "Mormon" has too many negative connotations attached to it. In all actuality, members of Christ's Church have been called "saints" (Col 1:2, Eph 1:1, etc.) and, in my belief, should be called "saints."

I think for some, being called "Mormon" detracts from the fact that we worship the Lord Jesus Christ and that our church's true name belays that fact, "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints"---LDS Church.
Me, it never really bothered me that I was called Mormon. I think many people associate the word "mormon" with LDS as both one and the same.

The actual name doesn't offended me but I'd prefer not to be called it due to all the negative associations that go with that name . The name was coined as a negative nickname by those who where against the church and it is generally still used in that way by them. I prefer to be called LDS or Christian.

A few years ago The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints started encouraged people to refer to the full name of the church instead of Mormon Church or LDS church, and members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints instead of Mormons or LDS. It hasn't seemed to stick very well because of the length of the name. When asked, I'll say I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Even though, by my name, you can see I still call myself Mormon as well.

It depends on the person. I'm LDS and I don't mind being called Mormon, but I know that some people do.
