Well, you're a girl so you have a very slim chance of being killed considering women aren't allowed in combat MOSs. Marines don't give you any $ benefits. The main benefit you get, is that you are a Marine. Don't assume that all there is to do in the Air Force is fly, and all the Navy does is go underwater. Those two services offer the best benefits and living standards. I'm the the Marine Corps Infantry, which to me is the best job you can have in the military. I scored a 98 on the ASVAB, and I chose infantry because to me that is what being in the military is all about. However, as a female, that is not an option for you. Also, if you are looking to go into a medical field, the Marines is not for you. We don't have a medical branch. We kill people, not heal them. No offense, but you don't sound like the military is right for you. You also have a LOT to learn about it.

If you are an RN with a degree, you should go on "active duty" not reserve or guard as an officer. The system takes advantage of Reserve and Guard because you can only earn 50 points (days) per year except for active duty and retirement is at age 60. Active duty retirement is 2.5% per year of highest pay after 20 years. I retired with 21 years of service at age 42. The military really needs nurses and doctors. I know a woman doctor friend that joined the naval reserve a few years ago and is now a Colonel.

It is difficult to join the military as there are many qualifications that must be met, but it is well worth the effort. Regardless of your qualifications, check with recruiters from all branches to see which will give the best offer.

You must follow your own heart. Your husband is trying to help you, and give you his best advice it seems, but maybe you might want to join up with a Branch of the Military that doesn't have the "best" facilities? It seems to me, that they, the Troops would need your personal care more than those who have better accommodations?

I believe it is. Two of the military's best hospitals are at Lackland Air Force base in San Antonio and at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS.

It's really up to you. The only service you cannot join as a nurse is the Marine Corps, they have no medical personnel, their medical services are taken care of by the Navy.
