that spoil the lies? Today I had to stand up for the Church that I have nothing to do with to a born-again co-worker who clearly didn't develop throughly after being born the first time. Anyways so she had these ridculous accusations about catholic doctrine, and it's sad that me an atheist would know more about anything that has to do with the church her sect split from, it's like not knowing where you came from. Anyways I run into situations like this a lot (ignorant protestants) especially since I was raised one of these clowns and was very much misinformed, so I'm wondering before your going to attack the doctrine why don't you guys go to a catechist class to actually learn what the doctrine is!?

I'm not part of the Catholic Church for some important reasons, but not everything they teach is against my beliefs. We actually have alot in common....sometimes.

Well, my biggest issue with the catholic Church is Mary being "venerated". I looked the definition of venerate up in the dictionary, and the difference between venerate and worship is as thin as paper. I do believe catholics are Christian, but I'm afraid of accepting messages from apparitions claiming to be from God. I hope you can understand my concern over this. How much importance do you as a catholic place on this area. I've seen photos of the Pope practically kissing the feet of a statue of her. If this does not constitute worship, then what is it? And don't compare it to kissing a loved one's picture in a frame. That's not even close to being the same. Okay, that's my speech. I'm listening!

A lot of born again "Christians" do not trust the catholic Church so much that they do not believe Catholics when they state what they believe. There have been many times when I have told someone what the Catholic Church teaches and if it is different from what they THINK the Catholic Church teaches, I have been called a liar.

They would never go to a catechism class because they already think they know all there is to know about the catholic Church. It is simply arrogance and pride.

At the same time, I do not know much at all what non-Catholic Churches teach because I am actively studying and learning what the Catholic Church teaches. I do not presume to know what other churches teach and I am not so arrogant as to tell someone else what their church teaches.

You speak from ignorance yourself. As an atheist, you believe in nothing. Catholicism leads it's followers to hell. The only catechist that I could give to it's followers is that they need to get under the blood of Christ. Their pomp and rituals will not save them. With it's false beliefs such as purgatory, limbo, being saved by baptism, etc., it is amazing that in this day and age, when a person can pick up a Bible and read for themselves what the truth is, that the catholic church has any followers at all. My family is Italian. They have been catholic for years. You need not waste your breath.
From a person such as you, who believes in nothing, your advice about salvation would be the last thing that I ever heeded. You do not know Christ. You do not know God. You have no idea about what power there is in the Holy Ghost. Knowing catholicism changes nothing about those truths. You can know all there is to know about the catholic religion, and still know nothing about salvation.

I am a former Catholic and I would suggest it s the bible we need to use as our example. Those who actually knew and followed Jesus are in a better position to demonstrate what the Gospel is and isn't. That being said it would be difficult to comment on what your co-worker did or did not say. Just a hint. It is not only bad reasoning but counter productive to label groups of people as ignorant. It is perfectly acceptable to strongly agree without lowering yourself to insults. My brother was going through to be a priest and my Uncle was a Christian Brother for many years. They both have left. I didn't notice any change in their intelligence level.

I totally hear you!! I'm an ex-catholic, now atheist and have had to correct ridiculous misconceptions about an organisation I don't even like. (not too keen on any organised religions to be honest).
