How can you tell if a dog (beagle) is actually pregnant or if it is a false pregnancy? Her nipples are swollen and it looks like she is pregnant, but I took her to the vet a couple of weeks ago and they did an x-ray but did not see any skeletons. Her intestines were pushed up like there were puppies in there, but she said it could be a false pregnancy. She is not quite a year yet and I am worried about her when/if she does have puppies. When I took her to the vet, she should have been about 5 weeks along and for the vet to not see any skeletons of puppies on the x-ray, that concerns me that she may not actually be pregnant. Should I be worried or should I just wait and see if she has puppies?

Why on earth is this dog not spayed???
You aren't thinking of breeding her are you when she already has problems - you could kill her by doing that.

At 5 weeks along you should get an ultrasound, not an x-ray. At 5 weeks it won't show anything, only around 45 days will an x-ray help. At 5 weeks an ultrasound will show the puppies sacs. I dont know why ur vet did an x-ray, ive heard it can dammage the puppies too early in a pregnancy, just like a person.

rescue member=bug the hell off. seriously. not everybody in the world has their dogs spayed for your convienence.

try this website
http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_canine_false_pregnancy.html
however call your vet again, or even call up a separate vet, explain the situation with your dog, and tell him that you have already seen another vet and had xrays. there are hormone medications to give dogs who have false pregnancies i wish the best of luck to you and your puppy. however try an ultrasound, they work alot better than xrays, and dont pay attention to @$$holes like 'rescue me' & nevrsirnder'
and krennao he never said he actually wanted her to have them, if she is pregnant, he really has no option now does he, if she is pregnant, she is going to eventually have puppies, and you cant spay a dog during false pregnancy as this could prolong it

Shouldn't you know if she's had contact with an intact male? If she hasn't, then she is having a false pregnancy.

Since when do they do x-rays to detect pregnancy? They usually do a feel of the stomach, and then an ultrasound.

You seem to not even have control of this dog , considering the questions have have asked. Now you want her to have puppies? Are you crazy? She is not old enough.

Go back to the vet and try again. If he feels certain she is not pregnant, insist that he try to find out if there is something else going on. If he believes she is healthy, have her spayed immediately.

Thsi is why I go for the ultrasound. X-rays aren't the best method.
take her back for ultrasound.
