If you found 400 bucks in a bank envelope laying on the ground with no additional info to whom it belonged to, laying on the bank lobby floor, would you keep it? I believe in karma, and my answer is no even though its very tempting. Interested in your answers?

i would return it to the teller or the bank manager. i used to work at a bank and we did find an envelop with money, we were actually able to find who took that exact amount and locate the customer.

hopefully one day god will return the favor

Good question! The color of a lot of answers changed, I'm sure when they read the rest of the question - the part about it being on the bank lobby floor! Personally, I would return it to the bank as I'm a pretty serious believer in what goes around comes around. I also believe that when I know something isn't mine, I have no reason to take or keep it. That's the basis of MY answer. The $400 bucks OR the coke in the office fridge... either one. I know they're not mine, I won't take them. I wish other people I worked with and knew felt the same. One of my friends' kids stole her OWN Christmas present out of my desk...it wasn't wrapped yet, so didn't have her name on it, she just wanted it and took it. And she was 16 at the time. Long past the age for learning a lesson of that sort.

If I found a bunch of money in an envelope at the bank I would turn it in without expecting anything in return...although a reward is always nice...lol. If I found the same thing in the middle of the street with no way to find out who it belonged to I would keep it, because you know as well as I do that if I, or you, held up a handful of money and said, "Whose $400 is this?" they'd come out of the woodwork...if, by some chance someone told me that it was their's and I believed them I would hand it over....In my opinion I didn't have $400 a minute ago and I was fine...so if I don't have it now, I'm still fine.

If I were right there at the bank and found it, it would very likely be from one of their customers, so I would find the manager and take it to them and see what could be done about it.

If I found it just 'somewhere' like in the park or on the street or somewhere, I would take it to the cops and turn it in -- but then I would also expect that if no one claimed it in a reasonable amount of time that they would give it back to me though.

I definitely believe in karma and I have done some little things here and there that have come back to haunt me. I would not want to take something that big, cuz I don't think I could handle the consequences.

I also heard of a lady who had housekeepers coming in to clean her house. She put some money under the rug to see what would happen. One housekeeper brought the money to her and told her she had found it. The lady gave her the money for being honest and because it proved that she had actually cleaned under the rug, not just around it.

Another day, she did it with a different housekeeper. Nothing was said and when she left, the lady checked and the money was gone. She did not have that housekeeper back again.

Another time, she did it with another different housekeeper and nothing was said - when she left, the lady checked and the money was there, but it was obvious that she had not cleaned under the rug.

At this point she hired the first housekeeper, because she was obviously thorough AND honest -- and they all lived happily ever after...

Call the bank, ask if anyone has called about losing money. DO NOT tell them how much!!!!! The person who lost it would no approximately how much was in the envelope. This is a good way to know if they are who really lost it. If the bank says no one has called, tell them you will call back in a few days. The person who lost it may try contacting them because it was in the bank envelope. I don't think there's much else you can do. But I do feel you should at least try to do something. If no one claims it, at least you can keep it without guilt.
We've all lost money ($2000 for me) and it's heart breaking. I would never keep found money if I knew who to return it to.

I believe in karma too and if i found $400 in an envelope i would assume it was karma trying to pay me back for the good things i have done

OK that's a little bit of a stretch.. I would take it because I could really use the money.

Humm!!! $400 dollars on the bank floor... well the right thing to do is to find the owner, but if there isn't any info in the envelope to steer you, you may want to turn it in to the bank manager, not the teller (cause they may be tempted to keep it). I would report it as found to the local police precinct & if it's not claimed 30 or so days later, you can claim it.

Absolutely not!!! Number one, it's not yours. Number two,
how do you know that's not somebody's very last 400 and
Three, you'd always have that on your conscience till the
day you die. There's a good possibility that someone at
the bank coulld actually find the person that lost it. Now,
if I was in the middle of a desert and it flew into my face
along with some tumbleweeds, I'd be inclined to think of
it as a gift from the gods.

Yes, I believe in karma too. The bank wants me to have 400 dollars.

I believe in karma too, and when I was a child I found a wallet, and kept the money. My wallet was stolen and lost a few times in my life, and I believe it was the karma of not returning the money that caught up to me, so yes, I would return it to the bank

It would be tempting to keep it. However, if it's on the floor of the bank, it technically belongs to the bank, so to take it would be stealing. I'd take it to the bank manager and let him/her decide what to do with it. $400 would help me out immensely, but I wouldn't want to sell my integrity so cheaply.
