The dogs are allowed outdoors unattended, as long as I'm home and can check on them. They're never left outside when I'm away from home, though.
If the yard wasn't fenced, then they definitely would NOT be outside unattended, because they wouldn't be outside without a leash.

Never. Too many things can happen to a dog that is left unsupervised in even a fenced in yard. Two weeks after I started dating my husband a neighbor alledgely poisoned his Rott mix by throwing a piece of antifreeze soaked meat over the yard fence because the neighbor didn't want to live near a "junk yard" dog. Kids used to come by to tease and throw rocks at my brother's Saint and my late chow mix when I lived at my mother's. All three dogs were sweethearts and usually let outside only when someone was out in the yard or to do their business. The cops just told the kids to stop before they got bit, and being afraid of the dogs didn't give them an excuse to tease them. thank God I now live in a town where the leash law is enforced.

When I am home my dogs are out for potty breaks and I do not watch them or stay outside all the time but I do listen for barking and generally look out a window every 15 mins or so. My gate is padlocked and my fence has been dig proofed by buring a wire fence connected to my chain link 18" inside the yard. None of my dogs have been diggers although a few fosters have been. I never leave any dog out if I leave the house. And I rarely even take a quick shower when the dogs are out so I can be outside in a couple of minutes if I hear a rukus.

I have a fenced in yard and four dogs. Three of the four dogs are somewhat well behaved and can be trusted to be left unattended while one of them is a monster and I have to actually put her on a leash before we go in the (fenced in) yard. I'm lazy so it really bugs me that I have to do so much work but if I didn't she would take a running jump and sail over the fence and terrorize my neighbors. Not in an aggressive way but because she is a pit bull and australian shepherd mix, I know some people would see her and assume she's evil. When in fact, she is one of the nicest dogs you could ever hope to meet. Almost too nice. She never wants to stop licking you and sitting on your lap.

Nope, When my dogs go outside, I go out their with and play with them so they can have fun and attention, never do i leave them outstide unsupervised, where i live there is a big dog stealing ring,
Any my dog are never outside without me, i am that type of person that wants something to do with my dogs TO SAY they are like my kids they are my babies,
I am not the average person that owns a dog that stays outside all the time and the only time the dog has any contact or attention is when the owner feeds and waters him/her and thats all, that really sucks, how could a person do something like that, why even own a dog if your not going to make sure he is safe and have attention

I have a pad lock fence, and real high where they can not jump over it, or dig under it.
i leave them outside to go potty especially in the winter time, and its 0 below. people would be lying if they say no, esp if they have fence in the freezing cold in the winter. i always watch them, to make sure they are not in trouble. my dogs will also let me know when they want to come back in.
my dogs potty for about 5-10 minutes then come inside in the winter.
in the summer, i am outside with them, but not for every single minute of the day am i with them. my dogs are well behaved and do not get into trouble.

Yep, we leave Jake out on his 30 foot tether in our yard lots. He has an uber-doghouse, big bucket of fresh cold water and some kibble too. He really likes it out there- he watches people and other dogs going by in the alley and sufficiently gives them heck!!! We feel that it is better for him to stay outside while we are away, rather than inside. This is because we used to keep him in and stuff got destroyed, garbage would get spread all over the place if we forgot to put it away, oh dear god it was crazy. So we've been keeping him out now for well over a year and it's been great! No problems. I know that a lot of people would disagree with keeping Jake tethered, but he gets to come in with us too, it's not like I leave him out there 24/7. No way! I love my Jakey Baby too much. we go for big walks and rides in the truck all the time. He's happy. We're happy.

Yes but i have a big yard and is fence in so they have access to the house inside and outside i always leave the door from the house open so they come in and out wen they want to they are brats but i know that they are safe in my yard so i don't worry i do check n them wen they bark or something to make sure they are fine but they are in they're little couch most of the time, except wen i take them or a walk outside, they spend 50/50 of time outside and inside.

my yard is fenced in and no way i do not leave the dogs unsupervised. i was out with her and she still got out. so no. plus i could not bear the burden if she was hurt. my father in law left his out and the older big lab got out by the highway and was hit. she is alive but leg is bad. the other 2 labs he has gets out all the time. they dig holes all over under the fence and house. i don't see how people do it. but then i hear the saying " they are animals and animals belong outside." oh well for them maybe but not me. i do let some of my cats out they love it out side. they also don't wander to far. it is all on you what you choose to do.

I have a secure fenced yard with padlocks on the gates and I still supervise my dogs when they are out there! You never know if some idiot neighbor will try to poison your dog or a snake could be out there or anything ! Supervise at all times !
