All I am saying is I go into a house with 30 people and 1 is legal on a daily basis, none speak english most are here illegally and I want to know why I have to speak another language (I am trilingual) but that is by choice and necessity so that I may function in my career better. I am a full time bounty hunter not a wanna be or a part timer, I am not a fan of Dog and am a true professional; I know the values of sspeaking more than one language as I speak 3 different languages. I am offended that in CA teens at a High School flew the Mexico flag on top of the US Flag and flew the US flag upside down to show that they were the majority, that offended me. We are all immigrants, this is true, my ancestors learned english instead of our native tongue of Gaelic becuase that is what needed to be done when they came to Ellis Island, why can't the hispanics do that as well, white/black americans are the minority in the US now, this is a fact, what are we going to do to keep america

I don't and won't speak Spanish. I'm already bilingual I just don't speak Spanish so whatever excuse they want to use for the wonderful benefits are only saying that to avoid learning English and trying to change our nations language. Read up on the intent of LaRaza and you will see why it is important NOT to cater to this group. Don't want to learn English...fine....don't.....just don't expect me to learn every language spoken by every new immigrant comming here. It is the official language of my state and it is required for citizenship whether they like it or not. They are going to isolate themselves in their little communities and still cry inequality and racism and everything else unless the whole country bows to their whims and yet they wonder why people are fed up with the whole lot of them.

Many of these people have been here for DECADES and still can't muster a "thank you" or "excuse me"? They are simply using language just like their "race" as an excuse for their behavior or a means to play victim of their OWN making. It's not all but it's enough to not only cause a huge division in this country but a division among their own people in this country. I feel sorry for those the most. They are proud to be American and in America and are hated by their own and seen as a traitor for simply speaking English or expecting our laws to be enforced.

Not to mention the sheer hipocracy of saying they are fighting for "immigrant rights" when they are placing undo and un-fair burdens on those of other countries who have come here learned English...are bi-lingual and yet now are expected to learn Spanish to work and live here? This isn't about immigration or fair treatment or anything....it's about special treatment and special rights just for hispanics and it's obvious way to many don't care about "human beings" or "immigrants" or "laws" or just wanting to work or anything else. I got their game and I'm not playing.

Lots of our ancestors didn't learn English if they were the immigrants. Their children did. The factory foremen had to learn a bit of Italian or German or Greek or whatever was the relevant language for their floor of the factory. The first newspaper report of the Declaration of Independence was in German, not English, because in Philadelphia in 1776, German was spoken about as much as Spanish is in Los Angeles today. If children born and raised in the United States are not speaking English fluently by the age of 6 or 7, then we have a serious problem, but if people who have moved here, and maybe only plan to stay for a few years don't learn English, I don't really see that as a problem. The Pew Center estimates that the average illegal immigrant stays for about 3.5 years before returning home - for the people who don't plan to stay in the USA long term, I don't think there's really a need for them to learn English. I lived (legally) in the Netherlands for two years and learned almost no Dutch, and never got the impression that anyone there was bothered by having to speak English with me.

And of course it's a serious concern when anyone, immigrant or not, legal or not, is committing crimes. I am reasonably pro-immigration, in the sense that I think legal immigration quotas should be expanded, because people are going to come anyways, and we should keep track of them. However, I think that if an illegal immigrant is arrested for a crime, he should by default be considered a flight risk and held without bail, then, if convicted, he should serve his sentence then be deported.

It's easier for us to adapt and improve ourselves, strengthen our character then to try and fight with these people. No one should have to do anything. It just becomes an issue of wanting peace. It would be nice to communicate with these people. A lot of these people do not have the luxuries we have such as education. I don't believe education is a luxury but I don't think many spanish speaking people do not have widespread education like we do. How do you reason with someone who has never been taught how to reason or think? How do you? It seems hard enough with people that have had at least some schooling and do speak English. Also the immigrants of years past were different. The U.S. meant something to them. They came from better countries. A lot of these countries are poor and lack the resources. Culturally, they are very different. I'd rather adapt and work to make things better than fight a battle that could last a lifetime or more. I have studied Spanish. It's a beautiful language. It only makes us better if we learn a language or two. Our European counterparts speak multiple languages. Our government has failed us and they aren't doing anything to help us so we must help ourselves. Or we must band together and fight for what we want. It seems right now that we are unwilling to do that because a lot of us have jobs that we would like to keep and need to keep.

If you don't want to learn spanish, then don't. In Mexican schools, kids have to take an english class. And it's not only Spanish speakers that have to learn english, it's also people that speak other languages. People in America that know Spanish are trying to learn English because that way they will have more opportunities in life. Bilingual people are more likely to be hired than people that only speak one language. People trying to learn english as a second language are more hard working than you could ever be. Yeah we live in America. It's a place where everyone is welcome. Why don't you go to England? They speak english there. But im sure they would look down on you and say "hey, this is England. Learn our English because we don't like the way you speak your "American" english". The solution to your problem is simple. If you don't want to learn Spanish then don't. No one is forcing you. No one is putting a gun to your head and making you learn it. If it's a class your taking in school then don't learn Spanish and fail the class. Simple as that. I have NEVER heard of American english and I have lived in the united states all my life. English is English. It's just a language. If anything, I would say english is like pig Latin. Why should we take english classes in American schools??? Now that's a waste of tax money.

I'm an American and am not very adaptable. I have taken 2 spanish classes, but that way I can sniff out the gist of what the mexicans are saying. I will not speak it. If anyone wants to be here, they can learn English. I think a lot of other-language-speakers just use it as an excuse to be more pitiful and get more services.

We shouldn't. They should learn English before they decide to come here. It is not like they woke up one day and said "I am moving to the US tomorrow." They had to take time to make a decision and researched this country enough to make the decision. They just don't want to learn it because it is not required. They are supposedly hard workers, yet most of them can't find it within theirselves to fill out an application for a visa and work a legitimate job long enough to get a green card. We are not forcing the issue of learning english, so they are not making an effort.

My answer is this. If you want to learn Spanish or any other language, that is up to you but you have no right whatsover to impose ur language on someone same way you wouldn't like to someone to impose their language on you. There are many factors that lead someone to speak or not to speak a language (ie:time constraint, economic factors, etc)

I am bilingual and more marketable in ANY job market whether inside or outside the US. Have no fear of any language, its all about self-improvment to me and my education.

Now, what u tell us about undocumented workers is not the majority. The majority are here working and exploited by corporations and have been here for decades.

I think you are just cherry picking facts so as to strenghten a very bias point. To say most undocumented workers are criminals is senseless.

I think the ones taking ur and mine job are the H1b visas and outsourcing. You have just been spoon-fed and distracted by corporations who control the media. You are too worry about someone coming here to work in the farm while the corporations are outsourcing and closing plants on the other side.

The current undocumented workers are pretty much being exploited which i dislike based on my human values.

Because of political correctness.
Also because big business is making a killing off spanish-speaking only immigrants, illegal or legal, and they're encouraging them to function without learning English because it fills big business's pockets.

In your business, dealing with criminals, it is probably going to be necessary to speak Mexican because of all the Mexican criminals but I for one will not be learning it nor do I do business with anyone whose primary language is not English. I don't even bother calling a business who advertises 'hablemos espanol' because I will not do business with them. If the help in a restaurant does not speak English I don't eat there. It is that simple.
But for some of you who actually have to deal with the criminals it will likely be necessary to learn at least a little Mexican. It shouldn't be too hard to learn 'ON YOUR KNEES OR I"LL BLOW YOUR HEAD OFF!'
Keep up the good work and thanks!

We don't, it is high time the government did something about illegals and make the legals learn the language.I heard on the news last night that it would cost us 98 million dollars to send them all home. I think that is a cheap price to pay to save our economy and everything else.
