hm...i really do find it offensive. i don't wear them myself. and i can see where you are coming from...i do find it offensive when people do wear them and don't act like christians. Someone said, i think it was the first person, that it's good because then he knows who is christian or not. that doesn't mean anything. you would know by their actions and words. also, it's not good to start debates. or at least, debates doesn't sound like a good word to use.
but anyways, one of my friends bought me a cross for my birthday. i have yet to wear it and it has been years. Mainly, i think it's a personal thing. if my brother was shot because he was saving me life and died, i wouldn't wear that bullet around me neck. i know that one day he'll be resurrected and i'll see him again. and i know Jesus was resurrected and lives. That's one reason why i don't wear the cross...it also seems that people only dwell on the crucifixion instead of the whole thing. They forget the suffering of our sins in Gethseneme and his resurrection...
but anyways, i don't find it offensive if people truly behave as christians, but i do find it offensive if they aren't one. i just don't wear them.

The cross has been used as a form of punishment , a form of excution , a grave marker , and a symbol of Christianity . If a person wears this symbol ( within reason - life size is a bit too much ! ) It could only be offensive if you are offended by Christainity . Many people are offended due to things like the Crusades , Inquisitions , anti lesbian/gay/bi/ TG proclamations etc.
Some people are upset by the wearing of the symbols of other religions such as Islam's because their stated goal in the Q'uran is to make the whole world subject to Islamic Law and to wipe out the Jewish People .
Some people are upset by Jewish symbols because they teach that Jews are God's chosen people and the rest of us a "second class" .

In all honesty, Christians who lived during the time of Romans also found the Cross offensive. It was a symbol of Roman brutality. It was anything but a Christian symbol. So if you are offended by it you are right in there with what the origional Christians believed! Funny how things change. That said, I think many people go through life searching for things to be offended at. Lighten up and let people live. Or have some fun and wear "electric chair" jewelry.

It's one thing to wear a small cross on a necklace, in a humbling manner, but to wear a cross like a bling-bling, or in some other showy, glaring way, makes it a mockery to what it signifies. Same goes with other symbols, like the American flag....were you can find it on underwear. To many people that give great respect, using these symbols in a flashy way shows disrespect.

It does when I see it bigger with so much bling on it. It makes the cross look very tacky.
But many people use the cross as an ankh and have a red jewel in the middle of it. Many consider it Gothic.
Try not to let cross jewelry bother you. It adds so much more stress in your life. Look the other way and breath deeply.

The guy below is wrong . My wife wears a cross sometimes as an ornament . She's non-religious .
Many people wear Egyptian or American Indian jewelry not as identification , just ornaments . Nothing offensive at all .

I ALWAYS FIND IT "off"ensive that (so-called) Christians think that ALL they HAVE 2 DO; is where a Cross AND THINK that's ALL THE EFFORT REQUIRED to go to Heaven ! ! !
p.s. I live in Las Vegas and EVERYTIME I "go through" a Casino 2 "eat"; I AWAYS SEE Several people sitting at a Slot Machine or at a DISGUSTING poker table wearing a Cross around there Neck !
WHAT HYPOCRISY ! ! !

No, I don't find it offensive. However your question reminds me of a comedy skit by Bill Hicks. "A lot of Christians wear crosses around their necks. Do you think when Jesus comes back he ever wants to look at a f'ing cross? It's kinda like going up to Jackie Onassis with a rifle pendant on."

Yes, especially when you consider what Christ himself said about it..."I will have Mercy, Not Sacrifice." He was quoting Hosea 6:6 which is a condemation of the very thing you are talking about....
A good source on the verses you don't hear from you local pastor...

Hey I'm an Atheist too but don't you think you're being a little bit too sensitive? It's not like they asked you to wear one. Isn't the most annoying thing about religious people that they try to force you to live by their standards which are dictated to them by their religion. If you force people not to wear a cross, doesn't that make you as bad as them?
