I have this 3.3L Grand Caravan, and it came to me with a tick in the engine, and no oil pressure. The previous owner had taken the oil pan off to put a new gasket on, and after that, he said it didn't appear to be oiling itself. So, I took it apart, got down to the oil pump (timing chain off, all that stuff) and tried priming the pump with grease. I put it back together, and it still ticks and has no oil pressure. Anyone who has some experience; if you've ever had to prime the oil pump, could you give me some advice about how to do it properly? If that doesn't cure the problem, what I might look at next?

Many thanks in advance

you shouldn't have any trouble getting a 3.3 to prime. make sure that the 2 flat spots on the pump are engaging the crank ok, make sure the o ring is on the pickup tube where it goes into the timing cover. it may have been left off or torn when the last owner had it apart and you didn't know it should be there. if you take the timing cover back off, take the pump apart and make sure the pressure releif valve isn't sticking. you might pull a couple rod caps and look at the bearings too, who knows how long the last owner ran it with no oil press. you could be losing your oil pressure at the bearings.

Sounds like you need a new pump. If this pump doesn't start oiling immediately after start up, it will ruin the pump. It should have picked up immediately when started. The way you prime a pump that won't prime is; Plug off the pvc hole in the valve cover and apply 4 pounds air pressure to the dip stick tub. But only 4 lbs. Otherwise you may create an oil leak. The air pressure will force the oil to fill all voids in the lubrication system, including the pump. Also, are you sure you doesn't have oil pressure? Remove the sending unit and use a wet gauge to make sure.

The oil pump is placed interior the backside of the engine, interior the oil pan. From Autozone: on your 1990 circumvent Truck Caravan (3.3L FI), the Oil tension swap is placed: decrease than hood, driving force component, front engine section, decrease than oil clear out, fastened in block
