I have heard that if you take ritalen when you don't suffer from ADD then it has the opposite effect on you and makes you have a lot of energy and be able to do things very well. I have seen this on two TV programs on one she used it to stay up stauding for exams and look after a child and the other time just to get everything done in her day quickley and effectivly. Does anyone know if this accually works?

ritalen is like a drug. if you do not suffer from ADD or ADHD it is like a drug and is addicting and you will have withdrawals when you try to stop.

Ritalin is in the stimulant drug class. On someone who does not have ADD, it acts as a stimulant. On someone who has ADD, it most often has the opposite effect which is to allow the person to concentrate more and generally be more attentive. This isn't always the case--biocheminstry isn't quite that simple. Some people diagnosed with ADD do not have much luck with Ritalin. There are now a variety of prescription meds. that may be useful. It should never be taken unless you are under the care of a physician (this goes for any Rx medication).

Using a stimulant to stay up and study is never a good idea. If you don't know the stuff the night before, a better plan would be to say a prayer and go to bed. As for looking after a child while on stimulants...YIKES...no, this is not a good judgment call. There is no drug in existence that will safely provide the effects you describe. Eat right, exercise, get a good night's sleep, and.....sent me $25 for my clinical opinion! (jk) LOL!

First of all, almost any stimulant will make you concentrate more. Think of coffee, and tea with L Theanine. If you do not have add, yes, taking ritalin can have very obvious consequences. Insomnia, heart palpitations, etc. If you do have add, and take ritalin, I wouldn't say that it is a sure way to a cure, but the consequences can be masked much more easily because it would seem that there is some benefit. Ritalin however is a very serious stimulant, and I hope that people find a healthier way to treat add. Try changing the diet. Mnay chemicals exist in foods today that didn't a long time ago.

Ritalin is not a good friend to anyone. Don't use Prozac either. The Prozac causes profound even belligerent and extremely violent behavior. Some have been known to commit suicide. What shall we then say to these things? If GOD be for us who can be against us? - Romans 8:31. The Lord daily loadeth us with BENEFITS, even the God of our salvation. Selah - Psalm 68:19. Peace, Love and God Bless.

Ritalin is a controlled substance. Taking any medicine not specifically prescribed for you is against the law, and possession alone can get you locked up.

That said, try coffee or tea. It helps you focus, keeps you awake, give you energy, makes your heart beat faster...and it's legal.

I used to take it at 14 years of age. It gave me insomnia, and killed my grades. I knew a 4 year old boy who was forced to take ritalin, and he died from it. Do not use Ritalin for any reason, ever.

I don't know anything about Ritalen but as a precaution, do not take any drugs without a prescriptions. Do not experiment on drugs, it may works for other but will not work on you.

just an advice..
