i am trying to resize a picture on the internet. for example if i go to google images and type in basketball, find a pic of a basketball but need it to be smaller how would i rescale it to a different dimension such as 500 x 100 pixels?

Save the file to your hard disk, then use an editing program to resize it.

IrfanView will do it and it is freeware. Also only 1.1MB download and no dll's or registry entries are changed. Just a single .exe file - which is unheard of anymore.

Anytime you try to make a small picture from the Internet into a larger picture, no matter what software you use, it will do this. The program you are using to make it larger leaves pixel gaps that are then filled in by the color next to it creating a blur. If you go to google Images and use the pull down menu under the search box that says image sizes, click high you can look for a higher resolution picture off the Internet that might work better.
