I believe that it's religion which tells you good from bad.It tells you ...

Not to kill
Not to rape
Not to rob

So I wonder for the atheists, y don't they kill each other? there's no1 (according to u) going to account you for any of ur sins.

For ppl like me who believe in One God, and in the day of judgement,i can't kill sum1. But what is keeping atheists from killing masses?Secondly there shouldn't be any chanrges for killing atheists coz If no Super Being is gonna account us (according to atheist belief) then who are we to account sum1?

Animals have no religion and most don't go around killing those of their own species.

Well, I don't describe myself as an atheist, since to me that has connotations of a sort of militant, activist non-belief. I'm just a plain old non-believer. I don't have a dog in the fight, if you follow.

I tried when I was younger. I'd read the Bible, and get bored. It didn't move me, didn't even scare me, which is clearly its authors' intent in parts. I prayed - nothing happened, or I'd fall asleep. I tried other religions - still nothing. So it's more that I stopped waiting, and moved on with my life. I don't have a problem with believers - that's fine. But you've got to understand, and really no offense here, but to me it's like still believing in Santa Claus. Sorry, but I just stopped at some point in the past. Glad when believing works out for you and enriches your lives - sometimes I'm faintly envious. Usually more envious of the mystics and the all-is-one/unity-w/God/tawheed kinda thing. But most days I'm content with my lack of faith.

And oh by the way, it doesn't require a belief in punishment in the hereafter to have an ethical code. Mine is rather utilitarian, so my view on killing is that it's usually counterproductive. We have this social contract with the State, so the State takes care of these matters for us. The police and the armed forces have the monopoly on violence, and that suits me just fine. I trust that were you to decide to kick me in the face for my lack of faith, the police will hurry along and deal with you, as would my lawyer when I augment the criminal case against you with a little civil suit. We'll be sending you a little reminder in the mail - you'll notice it, cuz it'll look like a subpoena.

Isn't it interesting that there is such a high correlation (though not necessarily causally linked) between countries with higher number of atheists and low rates of violent crime. The United States has the highest percentage of religious people and also the highest rates of crime.

Again, correlation does not necessarily point to a cause.

It is arrogant and foolish to assume that religion is the only source of morality. History and observation show that the effect is not very pronounced at all. Morality is understood by humans because of our ability to suffer and to empathize with each other. It is a natural characeristic. Belief in the gods need not apply. It has been shown that violent individuals are often selected against in populations.

Adolf Hitler, a Roman Catholic, wanted Germany to be the shining beacon for Aryan CHRISTIAN people. I do not know whether his personal religion was important to him or not, but I DO know which team he backed... (Or certainly didn't back).

Religion has nothing to do with it. "Morality" is evolutionary, and exists in other animals, not just humans.

Why Christians Must Steal From Secular Morality:
http://www.caseagainstfaith.com/submissions/steal_morality.htm
Christians must steal their moral rules from secular morality. They have no choice, as the Bible does not offer a moral system, it only offers a series of contradictory commands and a supposed threat of punishment in the "afterlife" for not following them - a punishment that is given equally to all violators - whatever the sin.

The Bible does nothing and can do nothing towards inculcating moral behavior on its own. Christians must steal from secular moral systems, and then merely graft their 'God threats' on top of this moral system. This is necessary. And the reason for this is simple: there is no morality in the Bible and there can be no morality in the Bible, because the Bible holds that 1) ALL 'sins' are equivalent (destroying any moral sense) AND 2) all moral behavior is immaterial, because works cannot save a person, AND finally all people are damned from birth.

In reality, Christians realize that some actions are more moral than others. They realize that moral actions exist in a hierarchy, and that rape is far worse than stealing a pencil. Yet the Bible holds that all 'sins' are equal, as all deserve the same punishment.

Christians also realize that humans can be moral agents... they expect moral behavior from others, and they view their own children as something to value. Yet the Bible holds that man is worthless, that he cannot be a moral agent, and that his sole salvation comes from grace. However, since Christians realize, implicitly, that all of these these points are obviously, prima facie false, they must steal from secular systems, that hold that 1) man obviously has a value 2) all 'sins' are obviously not equivalent and 3) a person cannot be held to be doing anything 'immoral' without intent.

You must do a lot of drugs, that's part of whole argument, and idiots like you are another argument for finishing high school. We believe it is the job of parents or teachers to instill in us what is good or bad. Not some imaginary man...We KNOW what is good and bad, I'm not saying we all live that way, but i think more so than a lot of the hypocritical Christians, and other religions. Killing in the name of they re religion, wiping out other religions, we are just here, living to live... We don't kill or rape or rob because we feel compassion for other humans, even you...

Your reasoning is as stupid and ignorant as your writing . If you had any education at all , you'd know that morals do not come from religion . Morals were established and practiced back in the stone age .
Sure , churches latched on to them and claim that they originated morals. Churches are great for making false claims , better known as lies .
If you want a person who will help you , one that has high morals , one you can trust , find an Atheist . If you want a knife stuck in your back , find a guy who talks about how "holy" he is .
Atheists don't need the fear of hell or the promise of heaven in order to be moral . It's in their personality , intelligence , moral values , sense of right and wrong .

Uhhh... Are you out of high school yet? You need to take a few courses in sociology pretty desperately.

MORALS ARE SOCIALIZED. THEY CHANGE OVER TIME AND GEOGRAPHY. THEY EVOLVED AS A WAY TO KEEP CIVILIZATIONS TOGETHER FOR SURVIVAL.

Do caps help, or are we still confused? If the Bible is the only thing keeping you from being a mass murderer, by all means continue believing. Just don't assume everyone else is that desperate.

People created religion. Therefore people created the morality you talk about. Morality exists without religion.

Morality is actually an evolved sense that most pack animals (including lions) possess to some degree. The larger the pack, the more important the morals.

so the only reason you dont go on a killing spree is because you're scared of a fictional character? Thats pretty bad, you must be a very unbalanced person.

For most of us, the mere fact that bad actions are bad actions is enough reason not to do them. From your question, Im guessing xians have a much more difficult time not doing these things, so they need a big mythology to scare them into behaving well.

Is this a joke? You can't seriously think that if you didn't believe in a magical, invisible, supernatural being that is going to punish you for killing, raping, and stealing, that you would go around killing, raping, and stealing. IF you WOULD, then that only says what type of person YOU are.

Do you think that "God" would be pleased to know that the ONLY thing that's keeping you from doing those things is that you're afraid of punishment, not because you're a good person?

Those things are also against the law (in most countries anyway) just because a person does not believe in God doesn't mean they are an awful person.

Honestly, you should know better than this sort of attack. This is beneath you and I am surprised and saddened by your actions.
