The first word for God in the Old Testament is Elohim. Which means more than one God. The same with the We in the Koran. These are the Powers and Principalities. And they are not perfect. They have authority from the Creator because they are allowed to be in Power. But not everything they do is a command from God. Revelation says God will straighten out the Hosts of Heaven too very soon!

God was jealous of His children worshipping things which they considered to be gods- such as idols, stars, the sun or moon, etc. Since He made all those things, it grieves Him to see people having them for gods (little g). There is only one God with a big G.

Most words, in most dictionaries, have definition #1, followed by definition #2 ....sometimes up to 4, or 5.
They present shades of differences, nuances if you will.
The word 'jealous' is not always to be taken in a negative sense.
There is a positive aspect to it.

Good question. Probably because the writers thought their were other gods. If it was metaphorical, then why not say he's the ONLY god and the others are false rather than say he's jealous of other gods?

If God is who and what he says He is, why would He want to share His glory with a rock? Or with a stone statue that foolish humans ascribe deity-like qualities to?
