well if ppl went by the bible and didnt spare the rod, or if we used the " village to raise a child thing", and if they did the whole if the kid is bad, doesnt listen to parents or village that they stone the kid then that might stop the world from going to crap and cut down population. lol
But really the point is not to blame the children but the parents, If a parent raise a child right it can offer things to the world But if they dont its just a waste. So really its whats the point in people having kids if they dont raise them to be good people. People should have to go through testing before having kids so they know how to raise them.

How do you know how much a child has to offer to the world? Heck, for all I know my son (who wants to be a doctor) may find a cure for cancer. Then again, he could end up working at Mickey D's saying "You want fries with that?" Adults have a responsibility to care for children when they're young and to teach them so they can go out into the world and make a living themselves. To say you're not going to raise a child because you believe that child has nothing to offer is both stupid and selfish. That's the difference between a parent and a sperm donor/baby factory -- parents take their responsibility to their children seriously. Anyone who doesn't is still a child and has no business having children.

Just a guess, but are you or someone close to you pregnant with a confirmed handicapped child?
**HUGS**
This is a very tough time for you and my heart goes out to you.
Now, I have point out Steven Hawkin, I have to say that I was a special ed school bus driver for six years and some of the greatest most fun people on the planet are the kid with Down's, I was also involved with a program that put handicapped kids and adults on horse (it stimulated walking and affected parts of their brain -- long story on how it was supposed to work) and there was this little girl who couldn't even wave at Mom though she could recognize Mom a little but couldn't recognize Dad or her siblings at all. But every week her entire family trooped up into the mountains with her and watched her ride the big horses. Her family was so much closer and had so many experiences in the real hard world that they wouldn't have had if she hadn't been born.
Is that contributing? All these people have enriched my life...

You have to raise them the right way in order for them to grow up and be able to offer the world something. You can't just say oh well this one is disabled/ mentally challenged and not gonna offer the world something. Thats weak. You never know what that person is going to grow up to be. That person could grow up and be a great doctor who rids the world of cancer or AIDS. So I would have to say Disagree.

Why wouldn't they have much to offer the world? The world needs more good people -volunteers, hard workers, teachers, etc. If you raise a child right with good values and morals, they WILL have alot to offer the world.

What does "offer the world" define.
Not everyone will be a doctor or a lawyer.
Not everyone will be a teacher.
Not everyone will be accountant.
But some people need to be garbage men......cashiers.....security guards, etc.
As long as someone has a good heart and is a nice person, they have succeeded. If you are in jail, living off the government or on drugs......then you aren't really contributing to society.....you're taking away and abusing it.

Who determines if they "have much to offer the world"? This is a ridiculous, open ended question! Evidently you do not have children. Hopefully it stays that way!

Really, it depends upon your sense of purpose. If your soul purpose is to "offer the world something" and you know that your offspring are incapable, then you're right.
For others, the "point" is merely propogation of a name.
And many others care little about purpose and it's nothing more than the result of a moment's gratification.
So, I can only agree with you if our sense of purpose is the same; Which, apparently it isn't. ;-)

oh my goodness you are so deluded on a million different levels! each and everyone of us was put on this world for a reason, we can all offer soemthing unique to the world.
a child has masses of potential to be a good citizen if only they are raised correctly. i feel sorry for your children if you ever go on to have any. that was a really horrid thing to say
