Would this be ethical? A viable way to boost the military service and offer a way to citizenship for those willing to fight for our country? Or is it unethical to offer such a way to gain citizenship? What are your thoughts. I'm just curious to see what people would think. I heard a news story about an illegal in the army and it made me think...

This would be to bypass the greencard system to relieve lines in immigration by offering a 'new avenue' to gain citizen status.

well if they want to be citizens then i see nothing wrong with it. if they knew english and had the determination and patriotism to defend the new country that they would call home then bravo to them. they would deserve our respect and at the very least citizenship in this beautiful nation.

I had a soldier who I was deployed with in Iraq who was a legal resident. While we were in Iraq he was "fast-tracked" and received his U.S. Citizenship while we were still in combat. I have heard of illegals who were in the military as well and have been able to do this too. If they are able to do the job, and are willing to serve in the military, I say go for it. Only somebody who has something vested in our country can truly appreciate it. My buddy who earned his citizenship while deployed fought bravely and is a great American. I say the more the merrier.

I don't have a problem with it. It's a better alternative than being illegal. In a sence they would be making an effort to ensure freedom and prosperity for themselves. More than a lot of American born citizens.
If an immigrant wants to put his/her life on the line to become a U.S. citizen it's better than sneaking over the boarder and taking full advantage of the welfare system and committing crimes.

We've been doing since the 1950's. It was called the Haig Act; you volunteered and completed a tour of duty with the U.S. military and the State Department would fast track your citizenship process.

They already have programs for this, there are allot of foreigners that work for the military. I don't see a problem in it what so ever. They are doing a job like our soldiers our. They are supporting our Military, and our country.

This is not new, it has gone on for ages. When I went to Navy boot camp in 1979 another guy in the company was from Venezuela. Citizenship is not automatic in those situations, however it is rarely denied.

If you read all of the little laws they state that serving in the military is no guarantee. But in practice if you are PERMANENT resident you can join. Once in the military can and will expedite the process.

Bad idea. There was a muslim who went nuts and shot all the men in his outfit. Our military has enough problems without having to do the job the government won't.
