The same reason I (a middle class white girl whose parents make well over the average salary, but I recieve nothing) couldn't get any help from the gov't for school.

Too many people lying about needing help so when people really do need help, we can't recieve it.

Well i am a mother of one and one on the way... I am 21 i pay my taxes and still i need some assisatance from the gov. The pregnancies were not planned, but what other choice do you have... Abortion isnt a choice. How dare all of you condemn her for trying to get some assisatance. There are programs to help, and i think that she should be able to apply for them. Granted though food stamps are for her and her family alone and she shouldn't share them. Cold hearted people upset me. I cannot believe how there is no compassion anymore.

You already collect food stamps, how about WIC, Section 8, go back to your local Social Services Office. Visit Planned Parenthood as well if you can't support yourself and your children use birth control. Visit the employment office, go back to school so you can give them a better future you are 20, a whole life ahead of you and 2 little ones !

First of all, there is no charge for grants. You're looking at bogus sites - find the actual government sites for good information.

Secondly, because it was our choice. We chose to have our beautiful babies, and it's our responsibility to care for them, whether we are married or single. It's unreasonable to financially punish married couples, and reward single mothers for no other reason than their romantic status. And you ARE receiving government support, are you not? Food stamps are definitely support, last time I checked. So is Medi-Cal, or whatever it's called in your state, and housing assistance, childcare assistance, job placement, etc.

Get educated, get a job, get moving. There are no free rides in life, and these little ones are counting on you to get creative and get motivated to find a way to make it work, as we all have. Good luck.

Okay, first of all, the foodstamps are meant to buy food for you and your children, unless your friend and her husband are also on the paperwork, and their incomes considered as well, you can actually go to jail for buying food for other people with your food stamps. Find your local metro housing dept and sign up, they will help you find a home of your own, and help with rent and utilities, based on what you make. If you need childcare to go to work, welfare will help pay for it if you take them to one of their providers, just call your caseworker and ask. Also since you get foodstamps, you qualify for WIC automatically. Wic will buy formula for the baby, and help with milk, cheese, juice, and peanut butter for the older child. they can stay on this program until they are 3.

Looking for grants is not the solution, look for assistance programs, they do not charge you. Trying to get a government grant is nearly impossible for anyone, don't believe what you hear on TV. Grants for things other than college cost to apply, take forever, and have such strict guidelines, few qualify, and the screening process if you do qualify, u r lucky to see money in a year.

You should be looking into low income housing, i know here we have an agency that will help provide you with daycare by paying the cost. What's being a single mother have to do with anything? My mom raised 4 kids by herself while my dad was away working and she worked full time. Every night she was there to help with homework and tuck In's. Quit feeling sorry for yourself.

you have food stamps, you ARE getting some help from the government.
try getting a job, no one gets a free ride from the government, regardless of their situation. you're going to have to be able to contribute some money to you & your children's well being. or at least go after the father for child support. if you get a job & need help paying for child care the gov should help with that.

Do not use your food stamps to buy food for others. That's called FRAUD and can send you to jail and then where will your kids be?

Getting food stamps is getting help from the government. Working people all over the country are already paying for your food.

It sounds like you have been to your Human Resource Dept. to get help already. I hate to say this, but you may need to check back or even ask for a different case worker. I had one lady tell me one thing(bad news) and a man case worker tell me the opposite. I was able to get money to help pay daycare so I could get my college degree. I was even able to get some money for school supplies. It makes me sad to think the lady was just trying to be mean..so we can just say she was dumb.
I never got child support....15 years later still nothing. I wish you luck. Hold your head up and do your best.

If you have a child 2 yrs old and you are 20, you must have gotten pregnant when you were about 17. From your statement It sounds like you were not married. Why did you allow yourself to get pregnant, and especially have another child??? You said you are getting food stamps... that sounds like 'government' help to me. Also, you should realize where the "government" money comes from. It is from all of us who work and pay taxes.
The real question is; why do you think tax payers should pay for your bad decisions?
